Not so impressed with the T4R owner who..
Almost took out one of my best freinds this week.
On Tuesday on Hwy 80 going over the Sierra's over the Truckie summit towards the lake
A 3Gen T4R passed my freinds chevy and an 18 wheeler at like 60+MPH in snow. Other traffic was doing maybe 30 MPH
The T4R spun more than 360 degrees and hit the concrete barrier on the right front corner and the chevy pick up and the 18 wheeler both manged to stop just feet short of the T4R, and the T4R backed off of HWY 80 to the shoulder so the traffic could pass, then the guy in the T4R just took off, without even getting out...
WTF?
anway, I hope this wasnt any of you, it wasnt me. Please drive slower in snow and ice
this is just an FYI cuz one of my freinds was beating on me last night about owning a T4R

Living up here, I've seen that before. We call them stupid flatlanders. No offence to my Bay Area family and friends. I know there are a few in the city who DO know how to drive. It's the rare city person who's bought themselves a 4x4 and get up into the mountains and think they are now invinceable. I was in a marked patrol unit on hwy 80 just outside of Sugar Bowl in a mild snowstorm, doing 45 in the middle lane, and a 4x4 Chevy SUV flew past us at clocked 68 mph! Radio'd it in, since I was not on traffic duty, and CHP pulled them over shortly later. They were from Danville (outside of San Fran for those of you who don't know N. CA.) and when told that they were nuts by the CHP officer, their quote back was priceless. "I didn't buy a $50,000 SUV to have to worry about the snow. That should be the vehicle designers problem."
This last storm Sat night once of my co-workers was in her Taco 4x4 TRD truck and just barely avoided a major collison by Sacramento city people driving up the highway to try to go play in the falling snow. As the wreck started to happen, she was alonside them, and then it got really ugly right behind her. She was pretty upset when she got to work.
Just be thankful no one you know got hurt.

He didn't even get out to inspect the damage he did to his truck? Sounds like he might have been high or drunk..... Either way he is a stupid-a$$.

Why was your friend blaming you for owning a 4runner? So he's saying toyota programs 4runners to endanger peoples' lives?

Explains why I don't like following mini vans. We all have our prejudices about car types and the people who drive them.

Residents of the Chicago area are also "flatlanders" according to the folks in Wisconsin. (It's true - hills magically appear over the Wisconsin border. On the Illinois side, we have flat land just about everywhere except the northwest corner of the state.)
Some of the flatlanders around here are equally crappy drivers. For whatever reason, people think a 4x4 SUV makes them invincible in bad weather (rain or snow). Sure, 4x4 gives you a little more control, but you still need to drive at a safe speed for the conditions. You can't go the speed limit (or more) in accumulating snow. 4x4 helps you go, but it doesn't help you stop. And I've noticed too that the cost of the SUV can sometimes increase the sense of entitlement.

While reading this thread, those were the exact words that came to mind. How very true that lots of people think that 4x4 means you're impervious to the elements.

What is wrong with minivan drivers?? I would think that they are the most cautious ones...considering that most have precious packages in their minivans.

here in California, its been my experience that wet or snowy weather means the general public drives faster....
perhaps the saying '4x4 helps you go, but doesnt help you stop' should be a freeway sign!
least thats my vote

Present company excluded, since I've seen your pics of you offroading! I just am not a mini-van person. I've been hit by mini-vans, run off the road by mini-vans, I was in my Grandmothers mini-van when we were T-boned etc.
It's just from my personal experiece Thai. From what I've seen, yes, it's Moms/Dads with very precious cargo on board. Or elderly drivers. Either way, from MY personal experience, the driver is distracted, not going with the flow of traffic, discourtous to the person behind them and just plain annoying to have to follow. Driving a mini-van is very much like driving a SUV. It's a different beast with it's own set of rules. I'm never mean to them or anything, but I do tend to treat the mini-van with extra space as much as I would if I see someone driving whilst holding a cell phone to their head.
Having been in a Siena, I know they are nicer mini-vans. So again, nothing personal. I know YOU can drive!

I know they do, that's why it always amazes me when I see them going 85+ down the highway. I know those things can handle it well, but that's kind of fast if you have little ones strapped in...
On the topic, its snowing right now. I'm sure there will be idiots who tail people, drive too fast, and don't pay attention on the way home. And you would think up here people know how to drive in snow, but many of them don't. I would think the same with Chi-town, since it snow there, but I guess they are "flatlanders" too.
