New York to Nova Scotia in 4WD...:(

So I bought a 08 SR5 Runner from a dealership in NY, flew my dad in to pick it up for me and he drove it home to Halifax (roughly 1000 Miles, nice guy).

Only one problem, the dealership had the 4WD engaged in 4HI before my father took it. He never noticed it because he's been driving cars all his life and doesn't know or understand 4x4 systems.

Anyway, my questions to you are:
1) Any damage likely to have happen driving all that time on highway dry pavement with 4HI engaged?
2) Should I be changing the transfer case/differential oil asap (vehicle has 14000 miles on it).

Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions? No sarcasm now...lol

The 4wd has a centre differential and is designed to run full time in 4wd on dry pavement as long the centre differential is left unlocked. There is a button left of the steering column to lock it, and and orange light on the dash to indicate if it is locked. As long as it was unlocked you are good.

Shouldn't be a problem. I would still have the gear boxes, drive train and engine oil changed. Not so much due to 4WD use but you never know if previous owners changed the fluids out after break-in.

You'll be fine, as long as the center diff wasn't locked.

The center differential allows you to drive in 4WD high on dry pavement. No damage done as long as the center diff was unlocked.
