Yet ANOTHER V6 Failure!!!!!!!!

Wow, our friend Alistor just posted this New Year's Day 2011 V6 engine failure......what caused this you ask?............the timing chain broke:

READAll you need is a new engine! Happy New Year!

It's funny, but of the 5 cars I have owned, the only timing chain/belt I ever had fail was actually a timing CHAIN just like Alistor. It was on an otherwise awesome 4CYL Mitsubishi engine, but it was a timing CHAIN, not a belt. It completely destroyed my engine.

Just some food for thought for all you V8 haters who constantly use the chain vs. belt argument.

First, we don't yet know the cause of the engine failure in that thread. You're speculating if you think the timing chain broke and caused the failure. The jury is still out.

Secondly, it's a fact that timing chains are inherently stronger than timing belts. That's why Toyota has a maintenance interval for the timing belt in the V8 4Runner, and no maintenance interval for the timing chain in the V6. That said, a chain can in fact break (although not nearly as likely as a belt), so nothing is infallable

And finally, did you really feel the need to start another thread just to point to the other thread? Really? Seems petty to me...
