F'N Advanced Auto Parts!

So anyways, I buy 2 sets of Silverstars to put in my wifes car and to also have as "spares" since they had a $5 rebate on each set, plus they were on sale. So anyways, I buy them and send in the rebate. I get a letter back stating I didnt send the UPC symbols. I sent back other UPC symbols (same code and everything), and a letter stating that I had originally sent them in TAPED to the damn rebate! So anyways, I get 1 check back worth 1 rebate! So I am already pissed at this point, so I deposit the check for $5 as I just cant deal with it anymore. This is 2 days after receiving the check mind you.

So what do I get yesterday in the mail?! I get the check back stating it cant be deposited since it expired 4 days previously! WTF?! Not only that, but my bank charged me $10!!!! So, I am now out an extra $10!

My advice-Dont go to Advanced Auto Zone. I have spent so much money there I could have opened my own store...but they will never see another penny of mine. It looks like my new Home will be Pep Boys!

Buyer beware---ban ADVANCED AUTO PARTS!

I will bore you with a few rebate stories - I'm now convinced it is more often than not a big scam. I've collected on 2 of the last 3. #3 promised a check in a week but that was a month ago. The other two took three visits back to the store where I bought the product with them calling the rebate fullfillment customer service number. Four months it took.

Get this, one rebate (the #3) was good with a new computer. It required going into a windows menu option on the new computer and hitting "print". After a dozen pages I shut it off and routed it to a file.
over 600 pages. Would have cost more to ship the report to them than the rebate was. Complained and they sent me a nice email and a promise of a check in a few days which is clearly not coming.

This reminded me to check a rebate I received email confirmation for back in february. Still no check, but at least is was "aprroved". I think they plan on you just forgetting about them....

REBATES ARE A SCAM!

While I did eventaully got a $50 rebate for spending a couple thousand bucks on household appliances from Lowes, most rebates are a scam. Instead of giving you the price off right away, they lure you in with a mail in rebate knwowing that most people won't do either they lost hte receipot, they forgot, or lost the UPC codes, etc. That is called slippage in the industry.

Peole who do send them in will be rejected for any little thing...any little excuse will do. Some companies will just igonroe you and you will never get your rebate. So go complain to the store. They will just tell you to complain to the manufacturer, some plant in India or China. Go hire a lawyer for a $5, or $15, or $100 rebate. They know you won't do it. So they got your money and you got stuck at full retail price.

That's why I will not buy anything that requries a mail in rebate. Give it to me now or forget it.

The ftc.gov website takes rebate complaints.

After they reach 100 billion they might ask for some laws to be passed...
