naw the xj's are great go for inline 4.0 motor, don't spend more then 1K on one and flush it out for a trail only rig, they are great for that sort of thing but as a daily driver and "reliable" vehicle, that's a 50/50 i bought my girl a 1991 xj for 1.5K and 200K on the motor, the thing was babied like no other used truck i've ever seen (some rich lawyer bought it new) and it's holding together reasonably well, only had to replace the blower motor on the heater so far and the usual oil leak, it's funny cause she didn't check the oil for like 3 months and then decided to drive the jeep one day (we either carpool or she take one of the other cars) and all of the oil had gone somewhere (not on my drive way not in the engine?...?!?!) well she drove her truck 80 miles that day with litteraly almost no oil in it, there was hard crusty stuff burned on the dipstick, well after a cheesy oil flush and change it still runs great....and i think the deal with the xj's is that there's not much to them, to actually break, even though you do have to watch out for transmission problems and a few other things, that why the one i got teh girl is stick, it is also noticeably faster then the auto versions of the same xj.
