Shrockworks Modular Rear Bumper/Tire Carrier

Its about time for a sneek peek into our 5th gen rear bumper we have been working on.

We had a good deal of success with a similar set up on our Jeep JK tire carrier, so we figured we would extended to the 5th gen crowd as well. This set up will allow you to order your tire carrier, and either now or later make additions to it and configure your tire carrier to your needs. We will have the standard configuration, with the ability to add jerry can mount/s on either side of the tire, and a cargo basket above the tire. We also have a design for a 10# CO2 tank mount that we could make available if the interest is there.

We set it up so that you have the option to move the tire up or down a total of 2.5" to accomodate for different tire sizes and allow you to choose the height you think is best.

There is a spring loaded hold pin that will drop into place and holds the gate open for you. This is a nice saftey feature, as well as conveniece.

The bumper WILL work for both trail models, as well as SR5 & Limiteds. You will be required to cut up and reuse parts of your factory bumper, but with the way it is set up there is no need for precise or exact cuts. 90% of the cuts fall behind the bumper wings, and the rest only shows when you open the hatch.

Let the questions begin....

Price range for the setup in the drawing? When can we see one on a 4Runner?

Looks Great.

I like it so far. The JK modular bumper is my favorite. I see slits on the downward facing portion of the bumper...are those for d-shackle recovery points? Also, are you planning to incorporate reverse lights on the rear facing bumper wings?

Off topic - Can the 4th Gen be next?

I have it mocked up on a truck right now as a rear bumper only, but will be putting together the proto tire carrier set up this week.

It is set up for 1" clevis shackle tabs, just like the front bumper. We might be able to squeeze some reverse lights into the center section, but depending on demand it could end up a custom option.

As for the 4th gen, we have plans to do rear bumpers for the 3rd gen 4runners and early Tacomas first.

It looks good.

I had a similar question to that which was already posted about the recovery points based on the drawing.

It appears that it will weigh more than the front bumper does. Any estimate on weight?

Have you considered the location of the stock backup camera? Any thoughts on a way to move it to the tire carrier?

Any improvement in ground clearance and departure angle?

Awesome, saw this on fb. What about a spot to relocate the backup camera and sensors?

Gobi ladder

Would there be a configuration to accommodate a Gobi ladder?

Do you have a price point? Will you run a sale similar to when you introduced the front bumber?

I relocated my plate and added a light above it to keep it legal. Any considerations for that in your design?

+1 on the license plate.
+1 on the Gobi ladder consideration.

Also, what about the back up camera for the Limited? Any consideration in the design to either relocate it, and/or what is the visibility when no spare is mounted?

Thanks!

Okki

Justin,
Lookin good!!! Really interested in seeing how this turns out, based on the photos its gonna be perfect. Love the modular angle.
Please consider the B/U camera, but it seems the view might only be partially blocked by a spare- rest of the swingout would not be an issue ever.

Here would be my priorities on modular addons:
-Spare
-10# powertank
-Highlift
-fold down table when open for cook/repairwork
-Rotopax fuel tanks(pair of 2gal or 1 4 gal) instead of "Jerrys"- much more practical and loprofile.
- swingout removable so i can not have a sh8 ton of stuff on my a** when im just cruzing around town.

SOLD

Just my opinions.

Aaron

Here is a look at the JK rack set up. This one will be set up using the same accessory mounts, since we already have them designed for JK rack. You can see in the second pic where the hi-lift is mounted, and it can be mounted to the cargo basket as well if you are running it, you just have to pull off the base and throw it in your recovery gear bag (we send out a stainless quick release pin to replace the large hi-lift cotter pin that attatches the base).

We are looking into the back up camera, but its deffinatly no simple task at this point. Also, I spent most of yesterday moving things around and found a way to mount the back-up sensors for those that have them. But, as far as reverse lights, the only place we could come up with to possibly mount them is putting some tabs on the rack itself.

reverse lights your talking about are extra accessory b/u lighting? recessed like the JK above would be sweet, maybe in the corner angles. Tabs on the rack would suffice.

Entire Swing Rack can be easily removed off the spindle? To leave only bumper.

can already tell its gonna be great. Dont skimp to get it out early
