Rear Hatch Trim - Are all TE's Black w/Chrome Lettering?

I have a '13 SR5 with the chrome rear-hatch trim piece. The entire piece is chrome, then the "TOYOTA" lettering is hazy chrome as an accent. I'd like to end up with a black piece with shiny Chrome "TOYOTA" letters and logo/emblem. Plasti-dipping still won't yield my desired results (even if I was able to cleanly mask the letters and emblem - which I wouldn't be able to - the letters are hazy chrome). I also like the look of the TE black plastic hue better than the Plasti-dipped black ones I've seen (plasti-dip doesn't seem like a deep dark black in the pics I've seen)...

I saw adam2562's TE and it had EXACTLY the look I'm after. He says it came stock on his 2011 TE:

(adam2562's TE)

I'd like to order this part from my dealer - but they have to special order it (means I pay up front). The Dealer didn't have a picture, just a part # (description did indicate it was for the Trail Edition), so he couldn't confirm the color/look (I want black w/Chrome lettering as pictured above).

Is this part (and appearance) common to ALL TE's? Or only certain years - and what about paint color (E.G.: does a RED TE still have the black trim?)? Then, is the TE piece 100% compatible with my '13 SR5?

Thanks for any clarification before I special order the part

Yes all TE's are black plastic with chrome lettering and all SR5/LE's are chromed plastic with silver lettering.

You rock harper7!!! Thanks so much for the clarification. I'll order the part ASAP...

Last Q - I know this panel pops-off (don't ask how I found out - let's just say I was VERY LUCKY the panel is what was affected!) - I assume the key cylinder is easily swappable w/o taking apart the rear-hatch interior trim panels to gain internal access?

Thanks again

Should be no problem to swap lock cylinders. I am pretty sure you have to access it from inside.

It shows black one with and black without camera on Toyotapartsales.com
76811-35260 w/o camera $111.94
76811-35220 w camera $111.94 with msrp's of $148.95
Free pick up at Toyota of Dallas but you pay tax.
We have the parts manual here on the forum with the part numbers

I just took mine off, sanded and painted it satin black as $100+ for a piece of plastic seemed excessive. I took mine all apart(that's what I do,lol) and did need access from the inside hatch to do it. Again ,it's all written in the repair manual.lol

There are 6 10mm nuts that hold that rear garnish on- 2 of them are for the lock cylinder. You will need to take the inner hatch panel off to get to it. Here's a link that shows the removal process:

Perfect! That's a good price from them, too! (Dealer where I bought my truck quoted me straight retail). I agree $100 is excessive for aesthetics - but I want what I want, and I'm not going to get a satisfactory look if I try to mask the letters - and the letters still aren't the color I want, either...

Well pooh! I just deadened my rear-hatch (inner and outer panels - covered the access holes) - so I guess I'll have to deal with that now, too... Was the interior-trim for the key wiring, or for a mounting screw? If it's for a screw - I think I already broke mine off by accident (I've had my trim piece pop off - being only attached by the wiring - don't ask - I was lucky that's all that happened )

EDIT - See Antman clarified - I must have broken off quite a few 10mm bolts with my incident

I was going to say nuts held mine on.
It doesn't come with the letters or the Toyota symbol. Like another $40 for the letters and $10 for the symbol and they are plastic stick on.

Geeze! Nickel and diming me to death I'll have to ponder the time+cash vs results on this one. I should probably fix this where it's held on by more than the two "pop snap" things
