Wow. So much info to digest! My head is spinning.
Does anyone just go to a tire place and show them a photo of someone else’s ride and say “I want this” and let them figure it out?

Debating between two wheel sizes and wanted some input from you all....
Currently have an Ironman 4x4 lift (3"F/2"R) on a 2016 Trail. Looking to upgrade tires to 285s (debating between Falken Wildpeaks or KO2) but my main question is the wheel offset/backspacing. I'm thinking of the Motegi MR150 and they have the following two sizes:
17x8.5 Backspace: 4.75 and Offset 0mm
17x8.5 Backspace: 5.46 and Offset 18mm
The whole offset / backspace still kind of confuses me but wanted to get everyone's opinions on which to go with? I'd like a wider stance for a more aggressive look but want to try to avoid BMC if possible. With these two offsets/backspacing what I am looking at? Which one is the wider stance? and will the wider stance require a BMC (I know it varies)?

First option 0 offset is your best bet.

Im putting on the daystar 2.5 leveling kit. Should i tell the alignment shop to put the caster all the way forward even if I’m running only stock tires and UCA’s?

New set up
I ran 18x9zero offset with 285 65 18 3 inch lift, fender lining trim and got rid of front mud guards, but was not happy with the look. I just put camburg control arms, body mount chop and 33/12.5/18's with same 18x9 and its looks much better. I will go bigger when these wear out.

Hi guys,
A lot of interesting info on this thread. I just bought a 2015 4Runner Limited. I'm thinking about replacing the 20 in wheels by 17 in ones. Can I use the P265/65R17 that fitted my now gone 4th gen 4Runner? Looking at the table below, I don't see any mention of aspect ratio 65 for 17 in wheels.
Also, I understand that switching to such tires would lessen my ground clearance by about 0,5 inches. Correct?
Thanks
Sorry for the bad pic... brand new member here, I'll get better with time...

How did that work out for you? It may impact steering/ride in a sloppy kind of way. An example of a vehicle with lots of positive caster is Mercedes, known for their “on center” steering feel.
IIRC the 4Runner runs out of clearance in front of the tire first. Asking a shop to give you negative caster may make it feel like it’s “all over the road”.

And what does this have to do with a tire fitment guide? Jeez.

Well don’t buy much into that chart, it’s way off. Either way, bigger tires mean a lift, right? So there’s what it has to do with tire fitment.

Tire fitment spreadsheet on this forum specifically states tire sizes listed in red will require extensive modification such as trimming and / or a LIFT.

What’s inaccurate? Bigger tires don’t always require a lift. By nature of many manufacturers offering various tire sizes on stock suspension, there is a possibility of 0.5”-1.0” gain in diameter being supported by the vehicle.
