The spring that surrounds the strut sits in a channel that retains the spring with the top hat of the coilover. When assembled properly there has to be a certain amount of preload (or tension between the spring and top hat) to account for the weight of the vehicle + passenger/gear.
When I installed coils on another vehicle with advertised "set from factory" preloaded coils; there was no preload at all. They torqued the top hat down to restrict movement but not to vehicle weight specs. One bump in the road and FWAP FWAP FWAP goes my suspension. It sucked.
These are assembled from the factory. I am asking if the factory preloads the springs with tension to account for the weight of the vehicle. IE are they truly unbox and install or do I need to compress the springs and adjust for proper preload? I apologize if my lingo is off I come from different roots when it comes to suspension products.
