2001 TE Stock Head Unit?

Hi, everybody!

Proud to now be a member of the club--bought a 2011 Trail Edition on Saturday... these forums were really helpful in making an informed purchase. Thanks.

I have a question for you: my 4Runner has an Alpine IVA-NAV-20 installed. I'm not terribly impressed with it, especially since the previous owner did not install the SiriusXM module and I'm a big fan of satellite radio, and there's no bluetooth audio streaming. The dealership has pledged to re-install the original head unit that came with the vehicle after the holidays... but I'm not quite sure what I'm in for. I do not have the 10-speaker JBL setup.

Can anyone tell me what the stock head unit is for a 2011 TE, or send along pictures of it? I just want to make sure that I'm making a wise decision here... the head unit is going to have to get removed either way, whether I have the Sirius module installed in the Alpine or swap the whole thing out for the factory unit.

Many thanks in advance.

Sorry about the terrible headline--it should say "2011," as in three years ago.

You would be making a huge mistake in going back to a stock 2011 head unit- no touch screen, 2 knobs, quirky (at best) Bluetooth- definitely a downgrade from the alpine. I'm also in the Boston area for the holiday and I have a black 2011 Trail. I currently have the exact head unit that the dealer would be replacing and I can definitely tell you that you would be "losing" on that deal. Either keep the alpine, install the sat radio, or pull it, sell it to someone and get a head unit with the features you want, I'm going to an IPad in the dash, to each his own. Hope this helps and Merry Christmas.

if your Trail came with the base HU (sounds like it did) i would have to agree that you'd be going backwards and not any happier than you are now. see if you can negotiate something else with the dealer to compensate you and in the meantime take a look at some of the other aftermarket HUs that have the features you want.

Are you sure the Alpine does not have Bluetooth? If not, upgrade it to another aftermarket unit. In no way should you go back to the Toyota basic head unit!

Thanks, everybody. This is a unanimous consensus, and you've likely saved me a lot of time, money and heartache. I contacted my local Alpine dealer to see if they can add the Sirius module and connect the Bluetooth the right way... seems like I'm dealing with a bit of installation error on the part of the previous owner.

Thanks again, and Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!
