I have a chamberlain / raynor aviator garage door opener with a PURPLE learn button. I also have two Liftmaster remotes (and a third which is a keypad), I've tried this with both remotes. I've even replaced the battery in one remote, and tried first pressing program buttons in both remotes.
I've tried variations of the following with no success

The "correct" instructions say;

Reset vehicle unit: Hold 1st and 3rd button until light changes from slow flash orange to fast green flash (worked correctly, done)
Hold current remote (liftmaster) near Homelink in vehicle and press a button (used 1) on homelink then press remote button until light changes from slow flash orange to green solid or flashing (did this many ways, solid press, press 1-2 seconds hold, release, repeat, remote this way, that way, the other way, it NEVER stopped flashing slow orange)
Press LEARN button on garage door
Press homelink programmed button in vehicle a few times until learned

I've tried all those steps, variations inbetween, and the last one. Always starting with clearing the vehicle unit. I've tried it with the vehicle running, in ACC, and ON. No luck.

I see a lot of threads about needing a repeater unit; Something about newer homelink operating on a different frequency than old, etc bla bla, lots of stuff.

Anyone have any suggestions?

If you follow the instructions in the owner's manual EXACTLY it will work. Sometimes you need adult beverages (plural) to complete this task.

Try a different remote if you can.

It took me literary hours to do this spanning over a 3 day period to the point I almost gave up.

Last day I tried and it finally took it. I do not know why. I even replaced the batteries on all remotes too.

You definitely do not need the repeater. I needed one for my 2007 Audi with home link to my 2014 door opener. I was able to drop the repeater when I got my '15 4 runner so that isn't your issue. It did take me a few tries with my chamberlain.

I installed a garage door opener once and the instructions for the opener to program a remote was to press the learn button on the motor unit then hold the remote button until the light on the motor blinked. Kind of a two person job since you need to keep an eye on the motor and hold the homelink button at the same time. They make these things with rolling codes so that someone can't quickly link to your signal, it's difficult on purpose, that's why using the button on the motor will be the best way.

What's the model # on your garage door opener? I would want to have a peek at the manual online in case it's a weird process on that side. (It shouldn't be since Chamberlain make everything pretty much the same regardless of brand, but you never know)

not sure what model # it is (can't find one) other than "raynor aviator"

the logic receiver board appears to be 41ab050-2

I have a craftsman garage door opener which is made by Chamberlain. The procedures on either owners manual did not work for me. I had to do some crazy procedure found online which was different from the owners manual.

How is this ANY different from what I already posted above?

I appreciate everyone's input, but so many people appear to be responding without even reading my original troubleshooting.

I did read, you said you pressed a few times, you never said you held the homelink button after pressing the learn button on the motor, that's why I gave my suggestion.

I gave up on mine too

I finally decided it wasn't worth the effort.

Then I realized that the remote fit very nicely inside the sunglasses holder using some double sided tape.

Approach garage - -
Flip open sunglasses cubby - -
Push button - -
Drive in - -
Just leave the cubby open while parked in garage
- - -
Back out of garage - -
Push button - -
Close sunglasses cubby - -
Drive away - -
Become automatic

Solved

Welp, last ditch effort, I removed my keypad remote from the wall, and used it in the below process. Cleared the homelink in truck, then pushed the button on the homelink in the truck, then punched in code and pressed and held ENTER for about 5 seconds and the homelink learned the code (fast blink green). Then pushed LEARN on garage opener, pushed button in vehicle on homelink,. blam, it works.

So why the hell are these other two remotes not good enough? weird, they worked from a block away, I have a hard time believing the signal isn't strong enough. Maybe they just dont repeat the signal for long enough after button press.

Never mind you got it.

Another thing to consider is the position of the truck in relation to the garage door opener. When I am directly under the opener it will not program. Pull back out of the garage and it will.

Perhaps there's TOO MUCH signal when you put it up close! RF is a strange thing, if a transmitter is too close and very strong, it will create noise on the receiver, overloading it and not allowing it to get the proper signal.

You say you can open it from way down the road? My thoughts are that its got a fresh battery and is a bit stronger than the older style openers, which is overloading the homelink's receiver.

Here's another issue that I've run into, its exactly the opposite of the above. The battery was weak, although still enough to get a "burst" of code out to open the garage door, but if I held it down longer than a second or two, it would stop sending the signal, although the light continued to shine on the remote. I put a new battery in and it worked.

Finally, and here's one that nobody else mentioned, does your remote do a burst signal or continuous signal when you hold the button? I couldn't tell from Chamberlain's site, but it could be that you may have to press the button several times to get it to program the homelink device.

In any case, glad you got it programmed in the end!

always start with this step when you program the very first button, don't do this for the other buttons for the other doors, otherwise you will clear your buttons back to blank, unless you follow the steps to clear individual buttons

press the button for like 1-2 seconds and several times. after about 3-4 presses it will go green (sometimes it will go to 5 presses)

I hate to bring up another old thread, particularly when I can't imagine there's any new information, but... I cannot seem to get my 4Runner garage door opener buttons to do what I want.

Here's what I've got:
2 bay garage
2 garage doors
2 identical garage door openers (both Chamberlain Liftmaster Pro)
2016 4Runner TRDP

I can program any of the 3 buttons in the 4Runner to open the garage doors, but BOTH doors open/close every time I press the button.

I've read and re-read the manual, but it's confusing. It appears to me that it says this is all that is required to program a door opener with a rolling code:

* Press Learn button on one opener
* Press and hold button in 4Runner for 2 seconds, then release
* Repeat previous step up to 3 times
Result: Tried each door; nothing happens; button does not operate door.

I've also tried this:
* Press and hold button in 4Runner and closely-held remote until 4Runner indicator light flashes
(Note: 4R button now operates BOTH doors simultaneously)
* Press Learn button on one opener
* Press and hold button in 4Runner for 2 seconds, then release
* Repeat previous step up to 3 times
Result: Tried each door; last 3 steps change nothing; button operates BOTH doors

And this:
* Press and hold 4R buttons 1 and 3 to reset Homelink remote
* Press Learn button on opener
* Press and hold button in 4Runner for 2 seconds, then release
* Repeat previous step up to 3 times
Result: Tried each door; nothing happens; button does not operate door.

And this:
* Press and hold Learn button on opener to reset opener
* Wait
* Press Learn button on one opener
* Press button on handheld remote; observe door opener operating
* Press Learn button on opener
* Press and hold button in 4Runner for 2 seconds, then release
* Repeat previous step up to 3, 5, 7 or 8 times
Result: Nothing happens; button does not operate door.

And this:
* Press and hold button in 4Runner and closely-held remote until 4Runner indicator light flashes
(Note: 4R button now operates BOTH doors simultaneously)
* Press Learn button on opener
* Press and hold button in 4Runner for 30+ seconds (per instructions on door opener), then release
Result: Last 3 steps change nothing; button operates BOTH doors

Now I know this should work. My last car (a 2007 BMW; sold) had a Homelink system with 3 buttons as well. I used one button for the garage door on the left and one button for the garage door on the right. Worked fine.

I've also tried many of these steps with the 4Runner parked inside the garage, immediately outside the garage, and 5 feet outside the garage. No changes observed.

I'm getting tired of fooling around with it. What else can I do?

When I did mine (2013 4Runner and old craftsman opener) I had problems at first. Then I figured out that you don't have much time to set the truck up and then get to the opener motor to press the learn button. I was just getting out and walking the 15' or so to the opener motor. Took too long I guess and something timed out. After I set it up and ran to the opener to push the learn button it worked. Also works through several power outages. I've never had to reset it.
