Dog Proofing my new 4Runner?
If all goes according to plan I should be getting a new 2016 SR5 premium this weekend/early next week. It's got leather seats but as you all know the cargo area and 2nd row seat backs aren't leather. I've got 3 50+lb dogs and want to control dog hair in the cargo area(where they'll ride) as much as possible. I can't decide if I should go cargo liner or try and fit 2 large crates or possible cargo liner and crates. Any tips/suggestions?

Cargo liner for sure. My dog sheds like it's going out of style. He mostly rides in a kennel.

I have similar problem and think completely covering the area with a heavy vinyl. and rubber matts on the floor. I have a set of loyds, but the carpeting area is as you know a magnet for pet hair, so, I am thinking a clear vinyl, similar to what granny put on all her couches. There are companies that do this for earlier gens, but I do not think they are current, in fact I have not located anything for 4th or fifth gens, but here is a link, and you may be able to get them to it for you.
actually here are two: Stock Interiors - Search Results

I've got a cargo liner, and it's been more than sufficient in the dog hair situation.
I never noticed the seat backs, but I do have a cargo cover, so I think that keeps her from rubbing against them.
Don't worry though, once you get your Runner, you'll be more annoyed by the amounts of dust that develop from driving around with the rear window down.

I have a yellow lab and black seats. Regardless of where she is her hair gets everywhere.

In our house dog hair is referred to as condiments...

There's no containing dog hair. My dog doesn't ride in ours and I still find it. Maybe cargo liner and crates. I would also strap the crates down so they wouldn't fly around in an accident. No one wants 3 50# projectiles flying around the vehicle.

Ruff Tough Kennels. Fits in perfectly with the cooler and camping gear! Definitely helps with the dog hair, and keeps your best friend(s) safe and comfy!

I show and attend canine performance events, so my dogs are in the truck a lot!
I have the Canvasback liners which are great... however.... the velcro does not extend fully down the sides, so some hair will get under there. But they are excellent at keeping mud and dirt off of everything. I would still highly recommend them.
For traveling there are several options... My dogs ride in a crate 90% of the time in the truck. You can fit a 42" long wire crate between the wheel wells. I get one that has two doors (made by Midwest) and use the side door option. They also sell SUV (or side-by-side) crates. These are only 21 inches wide and they do fit between the wheel wells side by side. They are heavy duty, but not cheap. They are an investment. Some folks prefer the airline style crates for traveling because they do contain the hair better, however, it is difficult for the air to circulate with that style crate because of the plastic more confined walls. There is also some difficulty fitting more than one crate because of the design. I have looked at a crash tested crate.... and I would love to have one for shows and events.... but they are NOT cheap. Regardless of what you use... make sure the dog is contained and if you use a crate, strap it down (I use ratchet straps). Being involved in rescue for many years I can't tell you how many dogs are lost because they got scared and bolted when someone got into an accident.
When my dogs ride in the seats on occasion I use a waterproof seat hammock, combined with a crash tested car harness. The hammock protects the leather and also contains their hair a bit better. It has straps that just loop over the headrests, and holes for the seat belt buckles which you will use for your harness, to tether the dog in place.
I encourage everyone to somehow secure their dog in the vehicle... for their and your safety.
Good luck!

As others have already said, go for canvasback. Great quality, super easy to clean off, and they send some dog treats with your purchase.

i also use the canvasback liner, as well as these canine door protectors when the 2 GSDs are along for the ride. fit is good for the size of the rear door, had to trim the plastic tap down that fits into the small triangular window.
in the second pic you can see how the tabs fit in the window jam

Have to say I love this forum. Was looking at a Weather Tech cargo liner, but that didn't solve my problem with having the seats down.
Pretty excited to learn about Canvas Back. No more worries about dog hair, sand, and everything else my dog brings into the back.
