Hello All. This thread is more about the use of the machine, than the build of it. I try to get out of the city once a month, and put the 4Runner to use. I have learned a ton from this community, so thanks.
October 2015 I finally got my hands on a 2016 Grey Trail with KDSS. Two weeks later I put KO2s on it, and did 1000 miles over the mountains to the desert and back. Not one ounce of buyers remorse.
Looks like you had a lot of fun. Nice Pics. What area did you visit?
Thanks. I went to South Lake Tahoe, all the passes were closed that time of year. Made it to Mammoth. Slept in the truck, then slowly made my way down to Joshua Tree. Made stops the whole way around Alabama Hills and Trona. Highly recommended.
April 2016 Exploring Lost Coast. Night one was on the North side. Did some hiking but got a little fogged out. Hoped to do Usal Rd, but it was still closed. Found some mud. Still a great weekend.
May 2016 I have wanted to do Titus Canyon for a long time. I took a long weekend and got out there before Summer really kicked in. Spent some time down South in the tourist part of the Park, then did Titus, the Crater, the Playa, then Lippencott. Lots of washboard, and my first true off-road experience. It was great.
Headed back North via 395. I got to Whitney and it was empty, so I figured I would camp. Set up the hammock at 2pm and took a nap. Woke up and hour later freezing, opened my eyes and it was snowing. I came back down the hill and drove up to Mammoth. Elevation is crazy. Within 24 hours, it went from 100 in the valley, to 70 in the hills to 20 in the mountains. 5am pre-sunrise hot spring dip was worth it.
May 2016 I love the Sierra City area. Tried to do some hiking and exploring, but things were limited due to snow. You will get scratches here. The trails are narrow, and rough loose rock. Still had a blast. Found an empty camp spot on a lake though, and maybe some mud.
Looks like you and I have very similar philosophies when it comes to our 4Runners. Building is fun and all, but if you don't use them, what's the point. DM me if you ever want another (twin) 4Runner to join you. I am heading to the Sierras myself this Sunday for some exploring before having sliders installed on Monday. Keep up the adventure reports; your photos are great motivation to get out, something many of us need.
