Whew! For a moment there I thought we were going to have that conversation again.
I bet Antman and a few others could come up with a mod to heat the roof and even the rails and crossbars. AOB could then sell a "roof heater" switch for your dash. It could be discussed in about 247 threads. I look forward to it.

the last storm here in the n. east was an icy one. I would rather have 24 inches of pure snow then 10 inches of cement snow then ice on it.
having a white T4R the ice clings on it securely. I did move the roof rails to the front to the max both up forward all the way. then using the side step push all the snow ICE to rear before the temps dropped.
I got 90% off but not all. good enough though not to get ticket.
I found that if you put heater on for a half hour and the temps are not too cold it will loosen the ice grip. if its 10 F out not gonna work .

I got a snow broom. They don't work when everything is frozen. How bout a heated roof mod god dammit. Hehe.

I you have ever followed someone that has snow chunks flying off the roof you will appreciate why we want people to clean it off.

Yea, i experienced it yesterday, a piece of ice fell from my roof into my front windshield/wiper blades. Hense the complaining from me today, but i'm good, its Friday, and 1 more hour of work left. WEEKEND! Maybe ill have time this weekend to install that Heated Roof Mod.

I have a scratch down the side of my door thanks to the idiot in the lane next to me on the freeway who decided to drive with a foot thick of ice, snow, and dirt on their roof during this ski season.
In cali, the drivers aren't use to the snow, so they think its funny or something..... Then again, the people in cali aren't exactly known to be courteous or safe drivers.

Guy across the street did that once. He had trouble removing the tarp but good idea, I'll try it.

I did enjoy being the only one on the road, it's a great feeling to stop where ever you want to shift from 4wl to 4wh. 4runner performs great in the snow. Had the terrain selector turned to mud/sand/etc works exceptionally well. Took it up a huge hill with out slipping. Good stuff.

Wait... I thought the way to get snow off your roof was to just get on the highway and floor it until it blows off. You mean to tell me I have been doing it wrong all this time??
I will have to say, with the gobi rack it is difficult to get the show out between the roof and rack.

tarp over vehicle paint is not good. using a sheet of 6 mil plastic clean will work most times because it will not stick.
the tarps are not smooth and will scratch the paint esp if you have 500LBS of heavy wet snow crushing down on the surface.
removing those 2 roof rails not an easy job . which is why I did move them together to the most forward position.
the storm we just had up here the wind was blowing 60-70MPH. that would be interesting putting a cover over the vehicle..

Cleaning snow and ice off your rig is pretty important. This is my buddies jeep from a couple winters ago here in Vermont after "coming into contact" with a flying ice sheet off an suv in front of him on the interstate. The driver in front of him was completely unaware any of this happened. Luckily he was able to duck his head down to avoid being seriously hurt or maybe killed.

2 parts rubbing alcohol, 3 parts dish soap, 5 parts water. Spray it on the underside of the tarp. The alcohol and soap won't let it freeze, and the soap keeps it in place instead of running off. The tarp will slide free with no drama, unless you left your crossbars on like a dummy
.This works on your windshield too. Spray it on the night before a storm, and the snow will brush right off the next morning. No refunds if it rains first though.

I wish the police gave tickets to people who leave snow on their roofs in New Mexico. Its a big time safety hazard.
Not long ago I saw a lady pull up to a stop light and all the snow from her Cadillac slid right down on her windshield. The wipers were doing nothing and there she was a sitting duck on a sheet of ice.
