Sidewall damage question
This happened during my last Anza Borrego desert... Pictures may not be too clear. Essentially, i noticed that I had side wall damage on my driver tire after the day trip. Luckily not enough to puncture the tube. the tread is even still attached.
I have an LE with full time 4WD, so I may have to replace all four tires if I need to swap this out ... what ya'll think about leaving it vs. swapping it out.. should I be concerned for my next trip?

Tube? You put tubes in your tires?
Anyway, every chunk you knock out of a tire is one less layer of rubber to protect it the next time. Your call.

This 2016 TEP w/KDSS is a big step up from the 1986 Subaru GL wagon I used on the Outer Banks beaches for 14 years. That thing would go anywhere in the sand on 185/70-13 tires. Dual range 5 speed, factory skid plate, 3 position manually adjustable rear shocks and armored exhaust. All factory, including the white spoke wheels. The front sub frame finally rusted apart.

if the side wall is flat not bulged out should not be a problem.
if it is out then should be replaced

So, if I ever have to change out a tire on my LE 4wd, I have to change ALL of them out? I had no clue... Time to **** up a tire so I can tell my old lady I need new ones...

Keep it, but keep an eye on it.
OTOH if you get new tires, you will have good offroad spares.

Thanks for all the feedback. No bulging. I have driven over 70 plenty, after. It happened about a month ago and it seems fine. I can however, very slightly peel it, but dont want to keep doing that and make it worse.

Ya there is no tube in your tire. Peel is back and see what you can see. If it's all rubber, leave it. It's fine. If not, replace asap.

I didn't know the precise names either. I just called it the body or "Is it down to the cords yet?"
Some people put tubes in radial tires, but most places won't do it for you.
AWD vehicles - like Subarus - need the tires to be the same diameter to keep the AWD system functioning and healthy. I've read about shops that will shave a new tire down to match the 3 worn ones so you don't have to buy 4 new ones.

if the rubber has a flap put some adhesive on it .. keep the cord clean sealed .
long time ago a had a slit in side wall but did not effect tire cords . covered the cut .

So... If I wanted to intentionally screw up a sidewall so I can tell my old lady I need new tires, what would be the best way to go about doing this without damaging my truck?
Oh, and asking for a friend...

dow 795 sealant use some alcohol to clean rubber then apply this sealer very flexible and sticks good. needs 24 hrs to be cured .
used in construction on metal/concrete/windows very good adhesion.

What about extreme heat or cold climate impact? will the sealant crack and make matters worse?
