An object flew off a Semi and damaged my grille

An unfortunate circumstance that happened yesterday to me. I was on the highway and an object, about 2 - 3 feet long, flew off from under the semi and it damaged my lower grille pretty bad.

I reviewed it on my dashcam and I called the trucking company, but their office is closed on the weekend. I left them a voicemail and I'll be calling back tomorrow. I have the truck's ID number and the number of the load trailer that he was hauling. License plate was kind of clear.

I was looking for how much the chrome grille is and dealer price is $728.57. Part number is 52701-35010. Found the price cheaper online.

Does anyone have experience with getting something like this reimbursed? It ruined my day yesterday, as anyone else would expect.

I'd imagine they would be very willing to reimburse you, as opposed to you contacting the police department and them getting them in trouble that way. I guess it just depends on the company.
 
Roadway debris and trucks

Was it a piece of the truck or something that was on the roadway?
I've been hit by a block of wood that a truck tire kicked up. Left a ding in my hood. I'm not sure if the truck driver is responsible for that. But now I avoid passing trucks in the lane next to them. On 5 lane So Cal freeways it's not hard to move over a lane or two.
Good luck. If the dash cam caught the event than you have a good chance of proving it.
The truck cab is specific to the driver. Trailers may get swapped out from one run to another.
 
Here's a screenshot of whatever came to my grille. I saw it come from the rear-drive side tire. Seems like something flew off from the front-passenger side and came out from the rear-driver side.

Can't tell much from the photo as to where the object came from or what it is. If it was road debris then I doubt you'll have much luck getting company to pay for it. If it was part of the truck that came loose you stand a much better chance of recovering. Too bad you can't identify exactly what the object is. Good luck.
 
That looks like an over the road driver and unless you can prove the piece came off his tractor or trailer then they will not pay. It was likely something that was already on the highway that they ran over and kicked back. Unfortunately, unless you are very lucky you will end up having to file on your insurance to get repaired

Unfortunately, to my eye, it looks like a piece of road debris that was kicked up. Could be wrong, but the GIF seems to show the object coming from under the truck's wheels, not coming off the truck or trailer. And the truck doesn't have anywhere to go since he is side by side with another rig.
 
Looks like a strip of truck tire tread to me.

In AZ these common due to the heat--truck tire delaminates and the long strip of tread flys out. Some trucks use retreads, but even regular worn-out tires will do this. Lots of these along the freeways and interstates here--they can really mess up a vehicle when it hits.

Hope you can get the company to help you with this! I know it would ruin my day.

My brother said the same thing. He said it looked like something from the tire came off.
 
Looks like road debris to me but if it’s a piece of tire from that rig then the tire was replaced and it’s traceable with likelihood of reimbursement. If not then you’re SOL and you just have to decide if you want to make an insurance claim or just pay out of pocket.
 
Unless you picked up that debris, proven it came off the truck, I can't imagine why they'd pay you.

I don't blame you for trying, and wish you luck, but I'd encourage you to get over it and move on.

.... and no, it does not look like a tire to me.
 
So you have a picture of a UFO and two semi trucks.

Unless you can document that it came off the truck, you don’t have much of a case.

Even then, the people owning the truck, and the people owning the trailer maybe two different entities, and good luck getting paid from either one.
