Life after 3 month Sirius XM trial expires?

I have been enjoying the free Sirius XM radio than came on our new ORP, but not sure I want to fork over $22.00 a month for it. We are one month in, and the Sirius Hyenas are starting in on the phone calls. The woman called while I was driving home in the rain, offering me 3 months for $2.00. Seemed like a decent offer, but she needed my credit card so they could nail me at the end of the 3 month period. I told her this was not a good time as I was driving, but of course she said "Can you pull over?" LOL! Uh, no, sorry lady!

The only thing I would ever use it for is Music, but looks like the Music Only package is App Only, i.e. no car audio...is that correct? Still feels like more than I want to spend. Is there a trick to get it for around $10.00? Do you take the offer and tell them you're going to cancel right before they start charging to see if they extend the offer? Is there a way to keep Sirius in the 4Runner without bleeding more than $20 a month?

A few years ago my buddy managed to get a lifetime account with sirius XM for a couple hundred $. He said he had to keep pushing them with all or nothing approach...

Point being, you may be able to negotiate a significantly longer subscription (1,2, 5 years, lifetime?) that equals out to $10 a month or way less in my friend's case.

Sirius has terrible audio quality and you aren't in control of your music nor can have it with you at all times. Your money would be FAR better spent on something like Spotify. I'm shocked companies like Sirius remain in business.

This is true, streaming from Spotify or YouTube Music etc is a far better and cheaper option for sure. Definitely more bang for the buck!

You can tell them you want the 5 or 6 month deal for 36.00. I’ve been doing that since my free sub expired in 2014.
Don’t fall for the high price plan they want to charge!

Agree. Apple Music, Pandora, Spotify, Youtube Music are all superior to Sirius XM in sound quality. Some even enable you to use higher fidelity files. Personally, I didn't renew the free Sirius and use Pandora and Apple Music.

I used to sign up for one of their deals during baseball season every year but quit a couple years ago. Now they send me $4.99/month offers that I think you pay for annually. It’s nice to have when you’re out in the Boonies with no cell service.

I have a 2020 4runner and when my 3 month trial expired, they kept hounding me to join again. I keep getting snail mail and well as emails about either another 3 month trial or joining.

I didn't listen to it when I had the 3 month trial, why would I pay?

I go through this BS every year. Before your subscription ends call them up and say you like SiriusXM but you cannot afford $17.99/month. Be ready to cancel if needed. See if they offer the $4.99 per month deal or better. If not, insist on it. You have to pay for a whole year. Plus they add in a music industry fee. Total will be about $72/year.

The last time I had an active Sirius subscription was when I purchased a new F150 in 2018. The audio quality was so horrible and the programming had gotten so commercial heavy, that I honestly didn't use it at all. At the end of my free subscription, of course, they called to extend. Well, I obviously had zero intention of keeping it so I politely said that I no longer required the service. Each time I said no thank you, their offer improved. The 3rd and last offer they made to me was $80/year before I hung up the phone. I received offers by mail/email for several years after that and if I remember correctly, the cost got even lower.

I always wondered how many people were paying full price for subscription based services. I call my phone company, tv provider (before I cut the cable), internet provider, etc any time my bill increases and tell them I no longer need the service as the price doesn't justify it. Its amazing how quickly your rates get reduced because you're "a loyal customer".

Its far easier and cheaper for a company to keep a customer, than to acquire a new one.

Keep denying them, and they will continue to lower the price. Accept their cheapest offer. When the offer expires, say you want to cancel. Then they will go very low again. The cycle continues. I like XM, but my phone has data and is superior. But it's nice to have the XM option. You should never be paying full price though. If it's for music, then I'd argue spotify is more viable. So lowball them.

Sirius has its benefits; especially on longer 8+ hour consecutive drives. It’s illegal and stupid to mess around with my phone trying to change songs or playlists or whatever while driving, Sirius generally eliminates that. The quality isn’t the best but neither is the sound system in my vehicles so that doesn’t really affect me.

To get the best deals call and tell them you want to cancel, they’ll usually start throwing offers at you until you agree or actually cancel, Last year I paid $60 for 12 months. I’ve been doing this since 2004 and it’s always worked.
