I get a consistent 20/22 mpg on the highway burning 87 octane ethanol free gas. NO BS !!!
What size did you put on ? I have 285/70 C Load on 17x8.5 SCS Gen 5, theres a noticeable hum, not really loud but didnt expect it on these tires. I had OC AT2 Passenger rated on my last lifted chevy and it was silent. Not sure if the load has any difference with the hum or the tread difference between the AT2 and AT3 makes the noise ?

Pics

Ty very much for the pics ! I have a set of 285/70s on order in C load . I went with the C because the side wall design was supposed to be thicker your pics of that exact tire prove that is true I feel much better about my purchase now . I wanted to try MT Baja or cooper rugged trek but I can only find that size in E loads for those 2 and it makes them end up weighing between 60-65lbs . So the at 3 at 55lbs are way better compromise I was just getting worried about bad reviews saying they break loose if you “ spit “ on the pavement but a you tuber told me his never slipped once until he hit 35k miles . So I’m staying with the at 3s. Only thing left is putting on Eibach stage 2 lift : 2.5 in the front and 1 in the back . Started to worry when I see most people go 1.5 in the back . So I may order 0.4 rear spaces from bilstein

Can anyone with LT285/70/17 in load range c confirm if their tires are made in Japan or usa?

I’ve been reading that the sidewall on the us model might be more aggressive.

Been running the Toyo OC AT3's for a year now and absolutely love them, turned my 4R into a tank in the snow. My tires are made in the USA not China like Falken's.

I don't have 285's...have the SL...all four made in USA first week of this year. The sidewall is not at all aggressive, imho, fwiw.

I have the 35x11.50r17 LT-C and they say made in USA. Sidewalls have depth but to me not that aggressive say against my old Nitto Ridge Grapplers

From my understanding the SL and Japan made LT tires have the same side wall which is less aggressive than the USA made LT model.

Perfect thank you. I agree the sidewall is not as aggressive as some other tires but sidewall depth is always good. I was able to track down a USA made set and should be here next week.

I was told by Toyo they make them both in Japan and USA. The ones made in the USA use thicker rubber and that is why the sidewall is thicker as well.

Mine say made in USA.
LT285/79/17 LR C
Sidewalk is not nearly as aggressive as a lot of “hybrid” tires. It’s more of an AT tire trying to be a hybrid than an MT tire trying to be a hybrid.

I just had a set of Toyo Open Country ATIIIs put on. The shop told me they had to use balancing beads instead of weights to balance the tires. He told me I would feel some steering wheel shake during the first 100 miles and it would go away. Well, it's been 600 miles and the steering wheel shake is still there once I go past 55mph. The shop asked me to bring it back which I plan on doing. I just wanted to get everyone's input here and see if any of you experienced the same. Thanks.

No balance issues or steering wheel shake ever on my E-load 265/70/17 and it's been over 5000 miles on- and off-road. There can be a bit of louder road noise depending on the pavement but nothing out of the norm for the type of tire. Never had an installer guarantee a period of wheel shake after installation though...

I would find a different shop immediately.

I've been using these guys for a long time with zero issues. I'm genuinely curious why you say that? Were they not supposed to use balancing beads?

Thanks.

From my understanding, beads/Equal are for specific applications like 18 wheelers. You should not have to use them in a tire of this size or a normal road going application. I've only used them in offroad applications where I had bigger tires and had to drive on the road too. I've even used airsoft BBs and they worked. Was actually kind a fun listening to them hit the rim as I came to a stop. Either way, I used them as a much cheaper and easier alternative to my tires going out of balance every time I knocked a wheel weight off or if I ever blew a bead while aired down, but it wasn't the "right" way.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the imbalance just goes away. The beads just pick up the weight differences from inside the tires as the tire creates centrifugal force as it rolls. Essentially, it's putting a band aid on the real problem of a bad tire, the mechanics balancer is broken, or he doesn't know how to use it.

I guess my point is that I am surprised a shop would resort to using such balancers on this application rather than finding the real issue.
