ARB Compressor and Auxiliary Fuse Box

Anyone run an ARB compressor through an auxiliary fuse box? If so, what fuse box did you use? The Blue Sea ones that everyone in the world seems to like has a 30 AMP limit for each circuit. The compressor needs a 40 AMP fuse and uses 2 40 AMP fuses if you get the twin.

My hope was to run all my accessories (light bar, rock lights and compressor) through the fuse box as I hate having in line fuses off the battery.

I had the same idea and never found a solution. What I concluded was that I'd run the air compressor straight to the terminals and everything else off a fuse block when I get around to buying. It is possible other fuse blocks with higher ratings exist, but I also consider electricity to be a form of magic so I tend to go for pre-built kits (which do exist for the 4Runner with Bluesea equipment).

You have two options here:
1- run it with a blue sea fuse box and 30A fuse. If it keeps burning fuses then:

2- run its own wiring with an in-line fuse just like the portable version they sell

Risky stuff here.. the fuse is your safety kill switch if something goes wrong with the circuit..

Completely agree here. I wouldn't run this thing without a fuse. Especially since the compressor can have a variable load. Just haven't been able to find a fuse block that supports a 40 AMP circuit and didn't know if anyone else did this. I would imagine these have to exist and that it would be ok to do since you have fused the circuit for the compressor.

If you want to control the compressor using the fuse block, I'd run a relay capable of handling the current load from the batery and then run the switching circuit off the fuse block.

High draw accessories such as compressors, winches etc. are commonly wired straight to the battery (with appropriate inline fuses of course) for the power leads. The switching is done off a separate low current circuit which can easily be fed from an auxiliary fuse block.

For higher current applications, Blue Sea makes the SafetyHub (100 & 150) line of fuse blocks that allow a limited number of high current (up to 200 A) connections in addition to the 30A or below devices. A bit pricey but they will last quite a while and allow you to mount all your high current devices (compressors, DC-DC chargers etc) through them instead of running individual in line fuses etc.

The ARB compressor comes with inline fuses.

I know. I'm waiting to incorporate that 40 AMP fuse(s) it comes with into a fuse box and not use inline fuses to lessen the number of inline fuses and wires coming off the battery. Makes the engine bay look cleaner. Anyone done this with the compressor?

This is great. Thank you. I might have to try this.
