Sideview mirror coming apart

The sideview mirror on the driver's side of my 4R is coming apart at the seam. It might be from a car wash or from someone bumping into it. There is no other obvious damage, but the mirror housing components are separating.

I took my car to the dealer for maintenance and while there I asked them to fix it. They refused. They said they were scared to break it. They said they'd fix it if I agreed to pay for a replacement if they broke it. The service advisor said I could try to fix it myself but couldn't tell me anything about what to look out for.

I played around with it and it is not as simple as just gently popping it back in place. It would require some force to do that and my concern is that there might be tabs or something which would break if I forced it.

Does anyone have a schematic or know how the mirrors are assembled? Toyota told me they ship to the dealer as one piece so they don't know what the internals look like. I was thinking maybe an auto body shop might have some knowledge but I figured I'd ask here, too.

That dealership sounds like shit. Just look up YouTube videos of people changing out their puddle lights to LEDs. You have to pretty much take apart more than half the assembly to get to the damn bulb. I’ve personally opened up my side view mirror quite easily after watching a few and changed my own puddle bulbs out. Chances are it’s just a few clips that came loose. People are scared to deal with plastic. Just take your time with it. It’s honestly not bad at all
