Maximum Depth With Snorkel

So after a fun time with a hydro-locked engine last year, I immediately added a snorkel, specifically Dobinsons.

I've strayed from any kind of water crossing due to sheer fear of it happening again, but I do wonder if anyone knows what the safest maximum height of a water crossing would be?

As experienced with the 4Runner I feel I am, I still remain not knowledgable enough to answer this myself.

Thanks!

As many others will say, its not so much the airbox, as it is the electronics and other items; The fusebox for that matter isn't even sealed and I've noticed even some of the wiring harnesses after buying my 4RNR new lacked some heat tape.

The Dealer mentioned to me that 2.5 - 3ft is the maximum depth on a stock 4RNR; That being said...

If you don't care about any of that or your interior; I would imagine up to your Snorkel's intake, given that everything is sealed properly.

If you do, and you know that the path is clear and there isn't any possibility of you stopping; I've had my 4Runner up to the tops of the tires no issue, bow-wake was higher. But I would imagine if I would've stopped forward momentum; I would be spending a few weekends pulling everything out, washing and drying it before reinstalling it.

Curious about the situation that caused your hydrolock....please enlighten us.
Depth?
Speed?
Did you get stuck then sink? Or did it just keep getting deeper?
Was your rig stock height?

I watched a youtube recently of a guy in Philippines, I think, who drove his Landcruiser into flood waters that were over the hood and couple inches up windshield for several minutes, the inside was taking on water but this thing kept going and came out the other side. It was amazing!!

I’d like to know more also. Did u pull the plugs and turn it over on the trail or to the shop?

Did they salvage the engine or did you replace it?

Saw a Jeep hydro lock at Rausch Creek. Shut it down right away, got pulled out. Pulled the plugs, hit the starter, WD40 in plug holes, plugs back in start n go.

I was impressed.

In the name of science since the op has a snorkel now he must continue to drive in deeper water until the 4runner quits. When it stops measure the depth and let us know.
