Oilfilter OEM Part Numbers?

I searched for the oil filter on partsouq.
The part number displayed is:
0415238010 ELEMENT KIT, OIL FILTER

And under Substitutions an other Toyota part:
04152YZZA5 REPLACEABLE ELEMENT

What is the difference? Both original from Toyota, but one is $4.73 cheaper.

Get the Toyota OEM filter. Buy a case of 10 from a reputable online store.
04152-YZZA5

They are about $6 each.

This irritates me. I don't drive a ton every year, maybe 8k/year? so I don't need a ton of filters. It would last me a very long time.

Maybe just bite the bullet and get a few air filters and cabin air filters too. I hate spending money when I'm forced to do it.

It appears that 04152-YZZA5 is the 'new' part number for 04152-38010 as 04152-38010 is discontinued. It (04152-YZZA5) is the kit and so has the filter element, gaskets and drain tube. When I order 04152-YZZA5 from the stealership parts department what I receive is the kit as described above.

Note that your source is reporting 04152-YZZA5 as simply a filter element.

You may want to confirm with your source that you would be receiving the complete kit and not as they indicate just the filter element.

Depends on where you live. 04152-38010 looks like the original equipment part number.

Toyota dealers in the US only carry 04152-YZZA5 but you can find the 04152-38010 part number on EBay and from other unauthorized sellers.
My first pic posted to this forum in 2010 is my first oil change using the 04152-YZZA5 filter.

Recommendation on oil changes.

I've been using the 01452-YZZA5 (filter element, O-rings and drain tool) filter kit with no issues. There is also a separate drain plug gasket that doesn't come with the filter kit (at least it didn't come any I purchased). The part # for it is: 90430-12031.

Also, there is apparently another filter element that is the same diameter but shorter. Another member posed a question about it some time ago. It must have a different part # and is probably used on a different engine. So, I'd verify you have the correct one.

Ref the oil change thread by Antman in the stickys for more details.

I have used 04152-YZZA5 since 2013 (FJ Cruiser) and still use them on my 2023 ORP....they come with all of the parts - except the drain plug gasket

Also consider the royal purple filter that is exactly the same as the TRD filter, at half the price of the TRD branded one. Part# 20-968

Summit racing used to carry them for 12 bucks and I bought a bunch because they seem to always go in and out of stock. They're currently shown at the full price of 25 bucks, which I've never seen before, but out of stock. Maybe they'll go back down to the better price when in stock, worth signing up for an alert maybe. Seems like there is another website (Royal Purple Direct) that has them for 12 bucks. Never ordered from them but looks legit from what I can tell.

Royal Purple Oil Filter 20-968 Royal Purple Extended Life Oil Filters | Summit Racing

Royal Purple Filter 20-968

Original OEM oil filter from the first ever oil change on my 4R, and RP next to it from my more recent 2nd oil change.

The one on the right seems to have less surface are for filtration - no?

As a side note, looks like the engine air filters (Part #17801-38051) only come in a lot of 10 on the toyota parts website I use. If anyone is interested in buying a lot of 10 and splitting them and lives in the Concord/Pleasant Hill (CA), let me know. At least I can get the cabin air filters one at a time ($29!).

I don't trust the eBay listings to be genuine, same with Amazon.

The TRD/Royal Purple has a completely different (and higher quality) filter media than the OEM part. I believe it is some kind of synthetic micro-glass versus paper of the OEM. The metal caps are supposedly to assist with a "positive seal", and inner metal housing to help keep the filter media from collapsing. For 12.99, I think they're a much better option than stock. If I had to pay full price of 25+ bucks I would likely go with something else though.

Tons of comparisons online of the TRD filter versus OEM. This one is almost a decade old but still applicable and accurate. My RP filter is also still marked Made in USA.
