2024 light headlight fog light and high beam lights
Hey guys it's been a while since i last posted on here,
Quick question,
I will be trading my 2020 TRDOR premium for a 2024 TRDOR premium
my question is,
I changed the fog light, headlight, and DRL/ high beam bulbs on my 2020 a couple of years ago to LED bulbs from the stock halogens.
I' m wonder how different are the new housing/ wiring for the 2022-2024 from 2014-2020s
Should i pull the bulbs out and put the stock ones back on before the trade in, as they can be reusable on the new 2024s, or did they change the housing and bulbs completely?
Any info will be appreciated

I believe the latest 4Runners have all LED headlights with built in LEDs. They cannot be changed.

The latest headlights are LED high and low beams, nothing to convert. You might want to restore the OEM headlight setup in case the dealer would notice and give you grief or knock some money off the trade-in deal.
Maybe you could sell your LED bulbs.

I actually just got on, looking for info on the headlight wiring and colors on the new LED headlight 4Rs
The low beam and high beam are both in the same projector. I just stripped back the wires and am looking for the high beam + side wire so i can feed a relay to run a light bar.
Projectors have 2 sets of wires
White / Black stripe
Green
White / Black stripe
Yellow
Green
I am going to assume the first one is low beam, the second set is high beam, the projector has a shutter that you can hear click back and forth that allows the cut-off diffuser to drop down out of the way, or at least that is what it sounds like and appears to be like. I put a full length mirror in front of the vehicle and was cycling the low / high beams on earlier and watching them. The cut-off diffuser drops down out of the way and the projector gets full brightness on high. I am going to assume the extra wire, yellow, is likely to run the actuator on the diffuser for high beam maybe.
The LED headlights are pretty nice except the odd rectangular dark spot in the top of both headlights below the diffuser. Really REALLY sucks, makes me wanna pull the headlights apart real bad.

My bad
poor info
the green and yellow are turn and marker lights
LED headlights use a small 4 wire plug towards the lower inner bottom portion of the headlight.
Blue wire is Low Beam
Black wire is High Beam
Wiring diagram i found on another forum

I’ve had mine apart. The tab that makes the dark spot looks very easy to cut off

Did you take any pix? That thing really blows me away, is it part of the diffuser or is it something else in there?
You gotta heat the headlight up and pull the lens or can you pull the projector out from the back?
I was looking at mine yesterday contemplating pulling the headlight but it looks like you gotta pull the grille / bumper to get the headlight out? There is a tab from the headlight that goes to the top of the grille and that part of the grille comes out with the bumper assembly it appears.
Looks like a serious job.

You have to remove the bumper to get the headlights off. Then heat them and carefully pry them apart.
I have some pictures but I can’t find them right now. It’s a tab on the high beam shutter

Dang, i put a light bar in this weekend, and took the top cover off and started to pull the upper grille off but realized its part of the bumper and quit. I took the skid plates off and worked it up from the bottom. I really dont wanna pull the whole front bumper off to get the headlight out but thats likely what its gonna end up at. We were riding a few minutes ago and i just got griped at again about "that dam dark spot in my headlight" and if i dont fix it shes just gonna keep on nagging.
I have done headlight mods in the past, typically pulling them apart and painting them or working on projectors and cut-offs. I am aware of what i gotta do once i get in there, but dang its gonna suck to make it happen.

Your new one will have LED low & high beams standard, along with LED fogs.
The DRL on the 22+ remains the ugly halogen, whereas the high beam is part of the projector where the low beam is.
If your fogs are real high quality aftermarket units like Baja/Diode Dynamics/Morimoto then I’d keep them and use on the 2024 as they stock ones are just ok.
You could keep your LED high beam bulbs since they are simple to remove. On my 2022 I switched off the DRL function, then removed the halogen DRL bulbs (which remain in the same position as your 2020). I installed 9005 LED bulbs and wired them to my switch panel as auxiliary high beams. They work great. (see my build thread for details).

Remove the bulbs as the dealer most likely will remove them and throw them in the trash, sell them to someone local or on here that might want them.

I took delivery of it about 3 weeks ago!
And I love it!!
Did the 850 mile oil change on it today!
LOL
The dealer i traded my old 2020 for, is asking for almost the price of a brand new base SR5 for my old one. I didnt take out the old LED lights...
In terms of lighting I can confirm that here in canada the projector style lights are LEDs, the inner ones closer to the grill are regular halogen Lights but also act as HIGH Beams...
I've done some research and found out the inner (high beam/ DRL) halogen lights have been modified to be 6V and in order to fix it i need to get this wiring system, as the new 2022+ models are now in parallel configuration rather than in a series config.
4Runner DRL Harness
– 4runnerDRLmod
But unfortunately they dont ship that wiring harness to canada
so im stuck!

That's correct, and i can tell you, at night when i put my high beams on to look at afar signage or when i go to a nearby trail i go do regularly .... they light up more area but with less intensity compared to the LEDs The stock leds are much brighter! And my old after market LEDs for high beams 9005s were much muchhhhhhhh brighter.... but even if i had kept those aux LEDs apparently they would not have worked, as they are not PWM + anymore..
