Necro... I know.
But I feel strongly on this, so I want to add:
Pedal Commander intercepts
ONLY your throttle signal, and changes it so the 4Runner ECU sees more throttle. For example, if you apply 10% throttle, the Pedal Commander will instead report 20% to the ECU (example only). Installation is simple, and "results" can be felt immediately.
Summary: simply depress your throttle more, save hundreds of $$$. Pedal Commander DOES NOT give you more horsepower.
But for around the same $$$, you can have both an increase in power, perhaps slightly better fuel-economy, and also improved response. Basically, by intercepting the Mass Airflow Sensor signal, telling the ECU something different, and having the ECU respond in it's normal manner. There are a couple of plugs to undo and intercept, but the difficulty is low. And the measured improvement is about 10hp (commensurate with the cost - it's not a supercharger and won't produce those sorts of results, nor will it cost like a supercharger). You are adjusting the Air-Fuel mapping. You will gain ~10hp and use several fewer "bars" if your 4Runner has the Eco bar-graph (ie stronger engine vacuum for any given load). It also seems that minor "holes" or "sags" in the throttle-response curve are smoothed-out, too (my impression). The driving experience is subtly smoother and more-responsive.
