That is encouraging. They look almost identical, so I am surprised it isn't making any noise. I feel as if my K&N filter has gotten even worse with respect to whistle, and if the TRD one doesn't whistle, then I may just have to do the switch-a-roo. Anybody else have the TRD filter and have whistling or no whistling?

Just and FYI... I took mine out due to a high pitched noise at right around 2000 rpm's - was very slight but one i noticed it very annoying to me - took my dealer and myself a good amount of time to link the noise to the filter but they were great and did not give up until we found the cause. It is nothing wrong with the filter -- just harmonic noise generated by the air flow - I thought it was electronic feedback from the radio at first but after taking a stock filter and my TRD for a ride at the same time the noise was gone after putting the stock filter back in.
He had the noise with the TRD filter maybe after awhile it will show up who knows? I had a noise with the cold air intake by K&N not the filter

Anyone ever had a MAF sensor crap out because of the oil from oiled filters? I would not use one personally. I know there will always be guys that say I've ran these filters for 20+ years with no Problems, but also I have seen many bad sensors due to oil.

I have indeed seen people foul up their MAFs due to oiled filters. However, in each case the person had recently cleaned and re-oiled their filter, and they had over-oiled it. All that loose oil can get sucked off under heavy throttle, and the first thing it hits is the MAF. As long as you don't overdo the oil when you clean them, you'll be fine.

Additionally, you only apply oil to the "up wind" side of the filter, so the airflow sucks the oil into the filter, not away from it. I've seen people oil the wrong side and likewise suck oil off of the filter.

Pretty much comes down to following directions. The instructions always tell you which side to oil and and how much to use.

Now that you guys have the Toyota/K&N filter for a couple of years now, what's the verdict? Worth it? Or not?

I had a K&N on my 3rd gen, it is 18yrs old, and 270k miles. No MAF sensor failure (touching wood...).

Ditto. Would love to see a dyno comparison of just the "Drop in" TRD Filter vs TheWraith's full TRD CAI improvements.

Many have suggested the TRD CAI's primary benefits come from the filter element itself (I believe the CAI's filter is a gauze/oil type filter just like this stock TRD Replacement).

Our T4R's have a rudimentary factory "CAI" in stock form IIRC.

I'm currently unconvinced that the TRD CAI, filter only or whole thing, add much if anything over stock.

At a minimum you get a reusable element

just light $58 on fire an get the same if not better results. Oil collects dirt... dirt in the intake path = no bueno. Never understood the attraction to these gimmicky things.

Believe me - I'm generally of that opinion as well. But TheWraith's CAI Dyno Runs have begun to sway my inclination to toss these claims out with the bath water...

Unbiased Owner Data > Seat Of Pants Dyno

Lord knows how often I had to clean the MAF in my '99 taco thanks to the K&N (and that motor lasted 265K with a lead foot)...

Agreed not exactly done in a controlled environment, but TheWraith's dyno results speak more than most people's "Seat of the Pants Dyno" reporting after bolting on CAI's and such IMNSHO

At least "The Wraith" was attempting to eliminate confirmation bias in some way. He certainly caught my attention...

MAF sensors get oily and dirty no matter what kind of air filter is used. OEM paper or reusable air filters make no differnce.
