Adding 3rd Row to 5th gen
I searched but didn't find anyone wondering this.
I currently have a 2010 Limited, every option except a 3rd row.
In a few years, I may need a larger vehicle due to kids. I'd like to just add the 3rd row.
I know there would be possibly new side panels with seatbelt holes, the removal of the cargo tray, and getting the 3rd row floor liner, but other than that I would expect to find the wiring harness and all attachment points already there, right? It's not like Toyota makes two different vehicles depending on the rear configuration.
I'm expecting to spend several thousand dollars to do this, but I got the 2010 Limited for under invoice so it's worth it to me. We're a few years off, but I might want to keep my eyes on the junk yards when these things take off on people
Has anyone looked into this?
Thanks!

It's not my plan and I don't care if it doesn't work. I have an 8-passenger 2008 LandCruiser as well.
Anything is possible and I saved a few thousand under invoice as well as got several thousand over KBB on a trade in. The sale was far in my favor
In a few years I could buy an accident destroyed 5th gen at auction for dirt cheap and have my way with it.
Just curious if anyone has done this...learn to mod yourself -- it's way more fun than having Toyota or someone else do it for you.

Anything is possible....if you have enough $$$$! Probably would be cheaper to trade in yours for one with a 3rd row than deal with the time & money of trying to mod it to accept the 3rd row. If you have tons of free time, extra cash, and love to play and go for it. If I am not mistake the 2nd row is also different with the 3rd row, I believe it slides, correct me if I am wrong. I am sure you would run into a number of hidden little issues. Like I said though, anything is possible....

My second row, passenger side, slides to allow access to the 3rd row. Something to consider when planning your swap.

before you start looking for 3rd row seats make sure you have all the mounting points on your ride. or your better off asking your local dealer and see if the third row seats will work on you ride.
goodluck!

Here are some 3rd row parts for sale from icenomad to get a start. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/classi...row-seats.html
To do it factory correct with new parts would be big bucks, like 4 or 5 grand, as air bags ,second row seats and all the plastic and I even think the headliner would need changed.
Best bet is find somebody who has 3rd row and doesn't want it , then throw them a few bones a swap interiors from the second row back.

No dealership will even attempt this no matter how much you pay them because the liability on that is not worth the few grand. I would not put the safety of my family on the line either.

The 3rd row seats attach with 4 bolts each and a mounting plate. I looked at a 4runner at the dealership without the rear sliding tray and it had the same mounting holes as mine with the 3rd row, so like you said, I would assume it is the same frame and holes, just different options in the rear. These holes now hold my storage box in place.
In reality, you only want to upgrade your plastic if you want the stock 3rd row seat look, but I believe the non 3rd row seat plastic will work with the 3rd row seats. The seats will just not have the "flush clean" look. But then at the same time, you have the option to take them in and out and you can add one or both if you desire. And if you are taking them in and out, you do not want the 3rd row plastic parts.
I would say it took me less than an hour to remove the seats, seat belts and all the plastic. If you do not have to deal with the plastic the install/reinstall will only take you as long as it takes you to tighten the bolts.
As for pictures, well I don't have any of the mounting points, but you can see from the link that Harper provided how the seats attach.

Good point and answer. The OP asked a legitimate question. Always hate turkeys who shoot people down without thinking or knowing the answer. Welcome to the world of modding. There's a whole cottage industry that caters to it as well as the DIY. I dont get why people who have nothing to add, bother spewing their 0.02 that's not worth the keys it was pressed on? Watch Cuban Chrome, or even Vegas Ratrods, and see what amazing things you can do with a piece of gum and shoe laces...maybe not those two exact things, but pretty incredible workarounds.

I have used my third row one time after insisting on it at the dealer. I plan on ripping them out to save the weight anyway. I'm in Southern California, what's a reasonable offer to you? Fair price, you pay the labor and I'm on board. 2013 limited, black leather.

You had to resurrect this ancient thread and admonish someone that posted five years ago as your first post?

Thanks. I did search. Plus, this was what I want to do too since it's so hard to find one with a 3rd one seat. Cheers.

I know this post is ancient, but on the off chance someone stumbles across it with the same question, the biggest issue you'll face is seatbelt installation and the lack of SCAB for the third row.
