Remote Power Windows ???

Recently purchased a 2011 4Runner sr5, it doesn't have the smartkey option. I was reading through owners manual in the customization section and read below next to power windows and it listed:

Mechanical key linked
operation (close)

Mechanical key linked
operation (open)

Wireless remote control
linked operation (open)

.....does this mean that the dealer can program the non smartkey fob to roll down all windows and moonroof.

Has anyone else had experience with this.
Thanks.

I just got mine programed last week. You just have to take it in to the service department. Not sure why this feature is not active from the factory. The techs at the dealership said they had never done this before. Not sure how I feel about that.

The dealer can. They attach the computer to your truck and go through the menus, which are feature dependent.

Awesome thanks guys, the wife took it to the dealership and they said it was only available for smart key and/or limited models. I didn't think that was right.

Sounds like your dealer doesn't know what they are doing bud, no offense. I've seen other forum members here with that function programmed. You put your mechanical key in your drivers door to use the feature after it's enabled. This is not restricted just to smart key, I'd check with another dealer. (They may have thought she meant to roll the windows down with the fob, maybe THAT is only smart key but you should be able to put your mechnical key in the door and turn it [and hold] for all windows to go down, etc)

Remote Power Windows

I went to the dealer today in North Hollywood and they set it up for me so the windows open when I hold the Unlock button. Only the 4 windows open though. The Sunroof and Back Window stay closed. The remote does not close them. I also asked them to change the Auto Lock so that the doors lock when I drive off (around 12mph) not when I put it out of Park.

You can also program the sunroof to open with the remote. Back window isn't possible nor closing the windows with the remote.

How much did dealers charge for this? Just curious, thanks.

Most will do it as a courtesy at your 1000mi "checkup"...Mine did, but I had a copy of the options marked up with how I wanted it. They actually did it all. Since then, I got the TechStream/Cable and actually changed some things myself, like the volume of the security horn and timeout of the lights.

Mine did this for free. Salesperson as usual didn't know anything about it so I pulled up this website. He called the mechanics and they did it.

Actually, that's a good idea. Why didn't you like the doors to automatically lock when you put it out of Park?

My dealer refused to do it...claimed it couldn't be done...and just about called me a liar. Bought an old laptop and ordered up a cable and software from China...did it myself.

Murphy's Law: As soon as you come out of Park, the wife say's "Oops, I forgot something in the house...."

Another good reason: As soon as you shift into Park, the doors "unlock". Not a good scenario if you happen to be in a questionable location.

I'm just used to it from previous vehicles. This way if I unlock all the doors for someone to get in and say I need to move forward or back a little then its like OOOPS The person is all UNLOCK THE DOOR!!!!

Since you have the techstream cable would you consider this option? The way I have mine done is: auto lock shifting out of park and above 12mph, but not auto unlock when shifting into park. This way you get it to lock ASAP, and lock again in case someone opens the door after you've shifted out of park (like that pesky wife of yours ).
