Heres a nice simple example from the School of Hard Knocks Toyota Sales Blair,
1997 Runners aint got a #2 grease in the CV Boots,
So are you tracking now ??
#2 grease is viewed as not suitable for a CV joint, these axles have CV joints in them,
Your runner dont have #2 dog**** in it for lube, or even as speced by Toyota warranty a #1 grade lubricant for the spindle bearing,
#2 grease should never be used in a CV joint, or how they put it @ CV joint school, a Multipurpose grease, what is listed in the Toyota FSM is unsuitable for a CV joint,
So dont mind the years, or the models, we are talking about CV joint lubrication, It applies to your 97 Runner, If the Toyota sales advise or recommend a #2 grease for Your axle,
Disregard it, it is unsuitable,
