Just Ordered but.....

Just ordered, but how useful is the Ladder. I ordered both the Sunroof insert and the ladder, but after thinking about it now, i'm not sure I really like the look of the ladder on the back or if there is any real use for it. Anyone think differently? Please chime in. Also wondering if anyone has mounted a Yakima Skybox to their rack. Thanks

Putting things on my rack or getting myself on my rack is kind of difficult without the ladder. I actually use it for photography and hanging out on, getting to a tent, packing for a trip etc...its pretty useful and it actually looks great.

I personally like the ladder look. It also makes loading stuff wayyyy easier. Threw some suitcases up there when friends and I took a road trip, also strapping my surfboard down up top is way easier being able to climb up and down.

Just my 2 cents.
 
Thanks for the feedback, I'm going to keep the ladder and mount it when I go camping etc. I was going to mount the rack without lights and purchase lights later to mount is it difficult to add lights later after it is

No its not hard, the stea;th comes with mounting points and is already prewired so you don't have to drill into the rack.
 
Has anyone done an install thread of the Gobi stealth on a 5th Gen I just got mine today and wanna go at it. Thanks

Just saw this an only have a moment, there is a reference to a thread in this one closer to the beginning. Also, I did mine by myself and it took about 2 hours total, pretty easy. If you don't find it or no one else points it out I'll reply again tomorrow with the thread I'm talking about.
 
The Hotness

Thanks for your Help!!, Followed it pretty much to a T. I got it on this morning and I love the rack. I know some people had trouble with customer service from Gobi in the past, mine was great. Spoke with Sandra over at Gobi, ordered the rack. I then realize that since I was moving that the rack wouldn't get to me in time and I called to cancel the order. After I explained to her that it was poor planning on my part, she called the trucking company and had them pick up the rack that day to ship to me. She kept me updated and the rack was delivered before the promise delivery date. This allowed me to install the rack before I left. Overall I am very happy with the rack and their service. Just my two cents. And since pics are worth a thousand words, here they are.

Well I finally got a chance to install the Gobi Rack, my luck they forgot to send me the hardware for the ladder and the wind fairing- o the set up is incomplete.

Question to all the experts out there. How much does your Gobi rack rattle? Mine rattles a little on bumps like potholes and manholes, normal?

Also, anybody have any water/moisture issues in the cab? I used some silicone in the gaps around the white tubes and the roof metal before I laid the first rubber gaskets down. It hasn't rained yet after putting mine on, I'm hoping I did a good job sealing it.

Lastly, I've been having trouble with one of the bolts on the front passenger side. I can't get it to go more than halfway down. I greased it and cleaned the threads still no luck. I did the quarter turn at a time thing the instructions say and there were no obstructions looking down the hole. Has this happened to anyone, any suggestions? more muscle?

I've driven close to 1500 miles already with the rack on it up to 80 MPH no rattle at all. I have about 200lbs (estimated) up top inside a Yakima Skybox (ironically including the OEM rack). Every time I stop I check the bolts, cargo box and pull on it to see if it has come loose. Nothing. The only problems I am having is the driver front leg where it doesn't bolt down, is not seated as well as the passenger side. I don't think this will be an issue in the long term though. The other issue is a lot of wind noise, but I think that is from the Cargo box being on top.

Total height measurement

Can someone with a Stealth do me a favor?

Can you give me the height measurement from the roof of the truck to the top of the front (top) bar? I have some clearance issues with my parking situation and just want to make sure all will fit with my lift. My eyes are bugging out from searching most of the threads regarding the Gobi Stealth...

The mounting brackets look about 2" tall from the pics I see and Gobi quotes the front of the rack being 4.5", but I can't find the exact measurements.

Measuring straight up from the left front corner (drivers side) of the sunroof weatherstripping to the top of the crossbar is right around 7".
 
Could someone with a 2.5" or 3" lift and 285s post the measurements from the ground to the highest point on the rack? I am about to order this as my Christmas present to myself, but not if it will keep me from getting into my garage. Thanks!

This may answer my question as well, looks like I have 11" from the roof to the weatherstripping on my garage door while sitting inside with the sunroof open. Should fit just fine it seems :fro:
 
It's pretty funny, my giant (stock) radio antenna is still higher than my rack, and my lights. :lmao:
 
so what's the cost now for a Gobi stelth rack, sunroof insert and ladder. Their website it pretty aweful, and has no pricing info.
