When replacing my belts on my alternator and such, the alternator pulley does not seem to be on the same "plane" as the rest of the pulleys the belt runs through. Could someone post some pics of a stock alternator and how it is mounted, attached pulleys, etc that would be a great help.

those help, thanks a lot. Is there a way I can get a side view, because the belt is not on the same plane, and the alternator pulley is not aligned with the other pulleys, i.e. the fan pully, etc. I hope you guys know what I mean, otherwise I can try and clarify to the best of my knowledge, but I believe that is why my alternator belt came off in the first place, i.e. not being aligned properly. Thanks for your help in the matter!

pulley thingy?
Anyone know the name of the pulley thingy this belt attaches to at the bottom of the engine? My belt just like the one in these photos broke this weekend, on a cold day a few miles outside of "town". I paid some guy named Newman a hundred bucks to tow it to a "Mr. Lube" shop (hey, they were open on a Sunday!), that replace belts for cheap. Now they're telling me the pulley is jammed, and claim the whole assembly costs $700 plus labor. Argh!
I offered to call around some junk yards and try to find the part, but the mechanic didn't know the name. Mine is a 1990 V6. I'm afriad the boys at Mr. Lube might be getting in over their head on this one - what if they replace the pulley only to find it's stripped or something?
Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?

Did you say "Hello Newman!!!!"
your alternator belt broke? there are 3 belts.
the one at the bottom that the alternator is on is the crankshaft pulley.
