They probably take it to a shop. My 4Runner won't show any new services from Toyota, that's for sure. The longer I can keep getting my vehicles fixed from the place I go to, the better off it will be. Hopefully they were taking it to a proper mechanic, though.
Agreed, but my 2013 comes with free service for the first few years. I thought the 2010s did also. So I figured it would at least have it's first few oil changes there.
I did stop a dealer in south TX once to get an oil change on my 4th gen. They put an oil change sticker on the window that said my next change was like 10k ago. They had entered my mileage wrong. If I had not put a new cluster in my vehicle and changed the mileage this would have really upset me. Imagine them doing that to someone and flagging their vehicle with a mileage discrepancy. (Mine actually does have a discrepancy as chance would have it)
So yea, I stay away from the dealer as much as I can, but free oil changes from the dealer for the first few years, who passes that up? Rental companies?

Don't quote me on this but I think the early 2010s might not have came with the ToyotaCare package so that might explain while they didn't go to the dealer for the free oil changes.
However, don't be surprised if some people opt to not use those "free" oil changes...I certainly haven't and don't plan to. Too many incompetent grease monkeys at my local dealership, I rather pay the extra few bucks and buy my own supplies to DIY.
I would pass it up. I've seen too many flunkies changing oil at dealerships, to want to let them anywhere near a vehicle of mine.
It's simply not worth the over-torqued drain plug, a couple missing or stripped skid plate bolts, and errant grease stains in the interior, to save a few bucks.
