New truck. Has anyone been offered rust proofing ?

My Stealership offered me rust proofing called "The Protector" . I DID NOT take the $796.00 package but since I live in the "road salt belt" capitol of the US ( Milwaukee Wisconsin ) I'm wondering if the undercoating would be worth it since the frames seem to get rusty pretty fast here. I do underbody flush every time at the carwash.

Just wondered if anyone else has taken the package or a different package ?

Thank you

I did it, never had before. Main reason I took it is the snow and salt in Chicago here and that I plan on keeping this thing forever. I have had rust issues on my previous toyotas, even with washing a lot, and that is what there are known for around here. Will run forever but will rust out on ya. Most will say it's a rip off probably and it would be hard for me to argue its not, but like I said, I'm keeping this thing forever and don't want to deal with any rust on this one so I don't care.

There was a recent post where someone was discussing a great way to do it at home. I looked, but could not find the post. I did not search. Not much time now.

I did some myself with Fluid Film, but I wouldn't really recommend it. It was quite labor intensive to get under there and spray all the rusty surfaces without getting too much on parts I didn't want to spray. And fluid film doesn't last that long, maybe a winter. I'm not sure if I'm just sealing in dirt and rust since my truck is old. I tried to clean it some, but it was impossible to remove all the dust, and I didn't even try to remove existing rust.

Having it treated when it's brand new seems best, as long as the treatment won't cause more rust. For example if it starts to bubble, that could trap water and accelerate rust. Of course the sales people will tell you that's impossible, but nothing is perfect.

Also make sure they don't damage things like wiring, moving parts, suspension components, rubber seals, etc. Even on a new truck it seems like it would be difficult to only spray it where you want.

I got a similar package on mine 20 years ago. When I look at my frame I don't regret it one bit.

I would do it and I have on many of my Tacomas and the new 4runner I just bought. If you live where they salt the roads, or drive on the beach like I do, its worth it. I didnt get mine done at the dealer though, there are local business that also do under coating at a better price.
