Toyota Oil Filter/Elements at Walmart, Counterfeit?

I have been getting my A1 and D3 filters and filter elements at my local Walmarts for the last several years as they began carrying them. Recently, the filter elements in the A1 changed from the pale yellow to a darker, orange yellow media. The packaging is nearly identical, and BOTH say made in Thailand. But the OLD ones have that printed in red on the box and has French as well, but the new ones have Thailand printed in black and no french.... Also, the old pale yellow ones are not as stiff AND have the full part number printed on the flap withteh Toyota stamp.

The new media is in the pics as I had my old box, but no old element to compare. I checked Wally WOrld and all the elements there of eavery side are the new Orange style.

Are these legit or is Walmart's supply chain infiltrated with counterfeits?

NEW package and element
OLD box (but the same new element...I could not crop it out in IMGUR :-()

I dont have first hand info...but i would doubt that they were OEM from Toyota. They could be, purshased second hand by Walmart from some distributor.

When i buy from Walmart, i buy Mobil1 filter elements...using with Mobil1 oil.

If you want OEM, i'd just go pick one up from the closest Toyo or Lexus dealership parts department.

@Miranthis - are you saying your Walmart store carries those or they’re from walmart.com? Many items on their website are from third-party suppliers so who knows if they’re legit. I suggest looking on parts.toyota.com. That’s Toyota’s parts site and their prices are very reasonable.

All the walmarts carry the common toyota oem filters/elements in stock at least here in KC Metro...with much better hours than the dealerships.

Did some further searching and there is a bulletin put out by toyota that they changed suppliers on the filters and the new ones are orange, as in my pics.....so they are legit.

Car Care Nut did a youtube on genuine vs non Toyota filters. One of the genuine checks is a small round sticker on the lid of the box that changes colors as you move it around in the light, forget what they call that, but all Toyota filters have it.

I checked and ours apparently does too. Surprised I missed that though the price is about $3 more each than the last time I bought a 10-pack from Toyota.

Yup. And not just Toyota filters price has gone up. The Motorcraft filters I buy at Walmart have almost doubled in price in the last couple months.

Seems like darn near everything I buy has nearly doubled in price in the past year....but the "official" inflation rate is only 3%.............

Toyota sells the V6 YZZD3 filter for $5.97 retail but many dealers offer discounts for parts ordered online and picked up or shipped (free shipping over $75). Discounted price at Marietta Toyota here in metro Atlanta for example is $4.28.

I don't think you can buy a quality oil filter like the OEM Toyota cheaper than Toyota sells it.

100% agree. Nice to get OEM parts at prices competitive with aftermarket. Can't recommend the online Toyota parts site highly enough. Getting all OEM parts at the same price as PowerStop is why I went full factory on my brakes.
