Where where these pictures taken? This looks a lot like my neck of the woods (Owens River Valley). On our way back last Saturday on 395 from Virginia Lakes (Between Lee Vining and Bridgeport) there was a fire south of Big Pine so seeing the smoke in the background made me thing this might be up there.
We're headed up that way in a few weeks, probably camping just shy of Bristlecone Pine. I'll have to check those trails out. Any gouge on hitting these trails?
Gouge?...like body damage? I did ding one of my rear LCAs, but nothing to the body or sliders. Def recommend it, it's a fun drive, awesome view and I hear you can camp at the end of Sand Canyon Rd., past the turn-off the Wheeler Ridge Mine Rd. Have fun.
Gouge as in details about the trail such as location, clearance needed (I'm in a stock '07 4WD) things to see near the trail, etc. I'll spend some time on google maps checking out the area. Looks like a nice drive!
Stock 4x4 will be fine for getting up Sand Canyon Rd., but you will likely suffer damage on the Wheeler Ridge Mine Rd. It is very rocky and narrow in sections. A good spotter may get you through, but I would not chance it in a nice newer rig like that. I have a 3" OME lift and 33s with a rear locker. I did ding my passenger side LCA on the rear axle, but that could have been avoided with better line choice.
