I've been fighting a problem for a while and want to see if you guys have any input. My 98 3.4 SC manual falls on it's face and pulls all timing until around 3500 rpm, then it pulls "ok". I do have the URD / split second FTC piggyback. I thought I was having a knock sensor issue...

So just did a cold compression test and re-gap the plugs as you had suggested 35. Cold they averaged 140 to 150 except for cylinder 3 which averaged 65.. .faak. Flooding at warm up now and I'm going to retest cylinder 3. Crapy thing is is this engine only has about 65,000 mi on a full rebuild...

gamefreakgc, what did you ever find on closed loop timing? Finally picked up a scangauge to see why in closed loop above 3k it felt like I threw out a sail. Sure enough timing drops significantly, down to 10 some times. Almost like the knock sensors or ECU are getting false readings...

So the timing retard I've put in the computer counteracts? That would make sense of why it feels kind of herky-jerky unless I'm WOT. would you suggest taking the timing retard out? Sounds like I need to research what the deck plate mode is....

Gotcha, I mainly want to get rid of the timing retard. Has always made it feel like it's being held back, I think that's more noticeable being a 5spd. Even with timing pulled and the additional fuel I'll get spark knock, but it's not all the time.

They are brown, I assume you're talking about the door sill plates? some of the tabs are broken on them. Still screw in, but not perfect. Still interested?
