Yes, I've seen them go for that much here, but they are REALLY CLEAN and unmolested SR5 models with original paint, like new interiors, reasonable mileage etc... Of course, the ones for 2500 don't look nearly as nice. The 1st gens are getting harder to find. Glad I have 2 of them ;)

First gens are collectible because it is the ONLY gen with a removeable top. All gens afterwards were pretty much the same, just facelifted a little. If they released a new 4runner with a removeable top, I would be buying my first brand new car in over a decade.

Definitely a NO. It has the original 3.0 V6 and not the infinitely more reliable 3.4. You're just asking for headaches with this one. My 89 1st gen had the 3.0 until I finally killed it in a mud pit. Now it has a nice bowtie 4.3. Would rather have the 3.4 Toyota though.

Well, my 1st gen 4runners will probably never be sold, unless someone offers me enough money to build another 1st gen 4runner monster. Those removeable top body styles are just way too hard to come by these days.

Ask if the timing set has been changed, if it's a 4 cylinder. If it's a 6 cylinder, see if the head gasket has been changed. At $1650, it's already a good deal, as long as the interior and body are clean, even with a blown head gasket. The 4runners with the 22re are really easy to work on.
