I was thinking the same thing. I did disconnect the battery for the alternator change and wondered if it might have confused the electronics when I hooked everything back up. The old alternator was very weak. Is there anything I can do to help the ECM relearn?

Thanks for the replies; that gives me a lot to work with. I probably won't investigate further until the weather is warmer because this problem rarely occurs, but I'm glad to hear that it's not supposed to make so much noise.

Thank you! The height is the dimension I'm having the hardest time with. It looks like I've got about 3 and 3/8" of space to work with, but all of the lights I've looked at are described as being taller than that. However, some of Amazon's numbers seem a bit dodgy, so maybe I'll have to look...
