installing B&M trans cooler - has anyone used the plastic zip ties that come with it?

I may be wrong but I disagree. You want the trans cooler quite close to the a/c condenser, maybe 1/4-1/2", similar to the thickness of the corner pads when using the zip mounts. Too much space between them will substantially reduce the draw through the trans cooler created by the fan. As I understand it the trans cooler's impact on the a/c condenser's efficiency is so nominal it is irrelevant, while maintaining air draw through the trans cooler is critical.

Maybe... I can't argue about it since I haven't seen any evidence of trans temps being different with it zip tied right on the condenser vs hard mounting it. Even if does effect temps (which I'm sure would be very little), I would still vote on hard mounting it as I find it more solid imo.

Just makes sense to me to allow each to flow its own air rather than transmit heat against each other. It could just be like, which end do you put the feed and return lines to the cooler;top or bottom, that debate will never end.

Here is AZ I ran a monster B&M on my old Dodge D200 (440/A518 conversion) using the included B&M mounts... they worked fine for a long while, though I did end up replacing them with a solid mount eventually.

I mounted my B&M 70264 on the AC condenser using the supplied plastic zip ties just like you are planning to do. It fit pretty well and wasn't difficult to mount up. Hardest part was getting those old factory rubber lines off the hard lines. Here's a link to the thread I used to install mine.

As everyone said the zip ties work, but a solid mount is ideal IMO if you have the time. I mounted mine and used one of the metal brackets that also came with the kit and the other holes were already there. More detail in my build thread link in Sig. But more of a gap between the condensor and B&M will provide a more efficient cooler.

If you want to do a solid mount I suggest this to make it easier:
install it using the plastic zip mounts then bend and form the mounting brackets, then cut off the zip mounts, then do the solid install.
trying to form and bend the brackets with the cooler already fixed in place makes the job infinitely easier. yes, infinitely. not just somewhat or greatly, but infinitely.

My trucool kit came with hose, zip ties, corner pads, and 4 flat metal brackets one can bend as needed to hard mount. Gots no eyed deer bout BM.

Just used what was supplied with the kit, and even used the bolts that were already on the truck. Quite simple and much stronger, good plan to stick with hard mounting.

I bounce my truck around to much to trust zip ties and like the look of a hard mount. Also keeps it farther away from the radiator.

Be careful if you have to use a drill. I drilled a hole through my condenser while mounting my B&C cooler. And I knew better as I was doing.

proximity to the a/c condenser is important to benefit from the radiator fan air draw. farther away is a mistake. Hold your palm 1" away from a vacuum nozzle. No suction. Get your hand within a 1/4" and schlooooop, suction. This is why I suggest mounting it with the zip ties and corner pads, then bending the brackets to hard mount. It holds it securely the optimum distance from the a/c condenser. Then you can cut the zip ties off.

Also keeps it farther away from the radiator.

Apologize for the delay, hopefully these images help as I happen to have the grill off right now. The cooler is mounted via three bolts and has been rock steady for the years it has been mounted so far.

I’ve used those zip mounts all my life. They never caused a problem.
