What to do if its too stiff?

This is a simple one... A lot of guys run 44psi in big tires like that, they go with the max on the sidewall. You should be using the pressures marked by Toyota on the door, despite the larger tire size. Heavy duty tires like that with stiff side walls will jar you to death. I ran all 4 my...

most accurate method to adjust torsion bars???

I have a write up on this. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/classic-t4rs/204279-how-properly-adjust-1st-gen-ifs-torsion-bars-factory-specs-via-sm.html Long story short: Level surface. 13.5" is stock from top of a 15" wheel to fender lip, regardless of tire size. After adjustment jack rear axle...

Someone talk me into a soft top for the summer

It is the best investment for the 1st gen. What other accessory is as cool, honestly? It installs quickly, rolls up easily. The roll up safari look was the most talked about thing on my 4runner. Softtopper is amazing to deal with they ship the thing fast, they have all the spare parts you...

    ZUK mod? Yes? or No?

Looks good. Does not seem silly high. As long as the front fenders appear slightly higher than the rear fenders it is fine.

15 MPG to 8 MPG Head Scratcher

Exhaust seems normal color/amount. I have not been able to find a leak visually. That is an idea though I will have to check the lines...they are flaky from rust.

15 MPG to 8 MPG Head Scratcher

Hey all, hope you are all having a strong start to 2018. I went on a long holiday trip and noticed I got the worst gas mileage of all time. The truck runs as strong as ever, and exactly the same when I was getting 15mpg....except now I am getting around 8mpg. This thing is chugging fuel...

Thinking of buying a very high mileage '88

Is there something I am not seeing? What is it that is in need of "a good deal of work"? It seems to have an incredibly clean frame and body? The truck even has the hardtop trim in the back. The drive train has high mileage yes, but all the offerings are high mileage on a 30 year old truck...

Thinking of buying a very high mileage '88

Three grand is not steep for that body and frame. The 3.0 is reliable in 88 and 89. Rock solid. I would not be suprised if that was never rebuilt.

    OME 2900 0r 2901 HD Rear Springs??

Even the Medium duty are often overkill, and more than half the guys who install them wind up removing a leaf. They lift the truck around 4" higher than factory height. Some play catch up with ball joint spacers in the front but the rear still looks too high. These thing are supposed to look...

    AC belt necessary for 3ZVE?

I looked all over the forum before I posted this. I am sure it is addressed somewhere in a build thread. Is the AC belt necessary on the 3ZVE if your air conditioner has been broken for years? I will be replacing the belts soon (and keeping a spare set) and was wondering if I should save my...

    Opinions on Radiator Fluid

There are only two acceptable coolants: TOYOTA RED (from the dealer) and XEREX Asian Forumula. Traditional Green is not silicate free and technically should not be used with our water pumps. I see it around in these trucks though. Color has nothing to do with anything, stay away from anything...

    1st Gen T4R Picture Gallery

Put the hardtop on. The rolled on Rustoleum flat white was so dirty it looked brown, but I used three Mr. Clean dry erasers on it with soap and water and it came as clean as the day I painted it. It had a few chips by the window seals, which I touched up with a sponge brush. It sat outside in...

What did you do with your classic T4R today?

    Cab Seal Help (for Hardtop)

Just so this thread is not a total waste: It is correct, the seal has a groove, and that side should be facing the hardtop, not the cab. The air coming from the cab bolt holes has disappeared, and absolutely no water leaks in (had a bad rain storm and went through car wash). So know this: If...
