Scooped up a 4.56 gear elocker at the yard saturday from a 97 for $127. Good bye narrow 85 axle and lockrite.

I'm really, really unhappy about it too.
I just finished assembling the built engine, turbo, and a bunch more, just to have to sell it. I didn't even get a chance to really enjoy it.

Just towed home a CLEAN 1995 3VZE/Auto/4WD donor truck (blown motor) for my newest headache job- transplanting in my buddies healthy 1994 3VZE/5spd/4WD driveline because his shell and frame are way too far gone rust-wise.
Will be doing a timing set and rebuilding the R151F along the way.
Once it's done, the old truck is mine. Will be rebuilding the blown 3VZE on the cheap and doing fullwidth leaf-sprung Ford Superduty axles front and rear, stay tuned for that thread!

Well it's been about a month. I went in to do valve cover gaskets on my wonderful 3vze and I've fallen into one hell of a rabbit hole. Against the advice of others checked my valve clearance (after scrubbing the burnt nastiness off the cam lobes) and 5 of the exhaust valves were wayyy out of clearance and needed adjustment desperately. So using my handy dandy original factory repair manual i was able to determine what shims i needed. Unfortunately, the dealership looked at me like i was a madman asking for shims and another had them ridiculously priced. Given these shims were few and far between i corrected the original shims (after much trial and error). With that pain in the a$$ out of the way, I turned my attention to the fuel injectors due to how filthy the manifold was and the original fuel filter that's still on the truck. Long story short, I have 6 new 4 hole Bosch injectors coming via snail mail along with a new ported vacuum switch (one of many things broken when removing the upper manifold. Oh and as it turns out my cooling system is disgusting inside so it's drained now waiting for a flush. While I'm waiting for parts, I've decided to hook the lights underneath the rear bumper as aux. reverse lights as the stock ones are pitiful. The control side of the relay is finished just need to run power now. Also installed a "new" radio, couldn't find the stock one so I used an alternate stock radio, plug and play with a cassette player and cd player. So much better!!! Anyway just an update for anyone that's curious.

Put the hardtop on. The rolled on Rustoleum flat white was so dirty it looked brown, but I used three Mr. Clean dry erasers on it with soap and water and it came as clean as the day I painted it. It had a few chips by the window seals, which I touched up with a sponge brush. It sat outside in the dirt for nearly a year and it still looks good now so I guess rolling on canned rustoleum was worth the money!
On another note I found my old beat up Thule roof bars. I wrapped them in some pipe insulation and used a few zip ties to freshen the look of them as they are more bare metal than paint these days. At least this way I won't have to use ANOTHER Mr. Clean Eraser when I throw an Xmas tree on the roof!

If I remember correctly, the second-gen that light on the tailgate should be the clear reverse / backup light...
May I also recommend wrapping the foam with PVC Pipe Wrap Tape (like this)? It's very UV-resistant and abrasion-resistant. Mine has withstood the sun and my kayak...

Welcome to the forum. I would like to suggest you start a thread for your restoration, but I think you may not be able to until you have made a certain number of posts. When you're able to start a thread, please keep us posted.
I remember seeing a second-gen with backup lights on the tailgate, one where that red light is on yours. and another on the right side.
Those red lights on the bumper maybe European standard rear fogs, low on the bumper so people do not mistake them for brake lights.

Correct, yours could be European standard - one backup light, one rear fog light.Im thinking that something could be change by previous owner.. Maybe rear lights... light on the tailgate is red and its work with fog lights switch.. I must take off back lights and look for wires

Today, I pulled my 4Runner under the carport and replaced a leaking transfer case output shaft seal. I'm definitely not a mechanic, so I hope that everything checks out when I examine it tomorrow. *fingers crossed*

Also, I forgot about this! My 4Runner was missing the b-pillar badges, so I replaced them with a pair of nice looking replicas that I purchased off of eBay. They really help bring the look together IMO.

Those lights on the bumper are only reflective lights. Does not matter 4 now cause im starting to make steel rear bumper with multicarrier so i will have to put new reverse lights

Today I mostly piddled around the house after filling up on turkey, but I did take a few minutes to work on my hood release/catch. Before, it was incredibly difficult to get the hood to latch shut. After readjusting the latching mechanism and lubricating all the moving parts, springs, etc. it closes with minimal effort and stays closed! :bounce:
There is a lot of play in the hood release handle in the cab and the hood does not pop up when it is pulled. I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but I may have to revisit it later.
