JR's basic boring "build" - dog hauler and ski transport

Starting Friday afternoon, I drove from the Seattle area to the Denver area. Not sure of the actual weight but I'm guessing 400+ pounds in the cargo area and 50-100 on the rear carrier. Up and over all the mountain passes running AC occasionally and probably averaging 80mph I netted about 18...

OEM rims that fit 3rd gen's?

Super old thread but why not... got these for a deal. Wish the tires were bigger. Untitled by 99blkx, on Flickr 17x7 5th gen wheels - $150 265/65r17 Goodyear Duratracs - $350 (including a brand new 5th tire) Not bad for $560 after mount and balance. I did buy new lug nuts but that was a want...

You need to upload your photos to a site like Flickr and then use the IMG tags to post here. There's tutorials on this site but it's basically the same for all vBulletin forums.

JR's basic boring "build" - dog hauler and ski transport

Poly bushings are fine when it's a linear up and down motion like our LCA's. They become a problem when more twist and flex is needed. I think the fact that Whiteline only press fit a small portion of the sleeve allow for some twist. Got the tires mounted on the new wheels. Untitled by 99blkx...

5th gen wheels really do look great on these trucks. Here's my new (to me) setup. Untitled by 99blkx, on Flickr 17x7 5th gen wheels. 265/65r17 Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires. I'd like bigger tires but I'll take a deal when I find it. :)

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I drove it for the first time in a few weeks. Steering is kinda pulsing when cold like the pump is struggling, and it’s a bit stiff. Doesn’t want to center itself easily. I’ll check the fluid again but worried I’ll be pump shopping soon. Monday it gets Duratracs mounted and aligned. Can’t wait...

The 3rd Gen All Questions Allowed Thread

What is a dead OEM steering rack worth? I know some companies charge for cores so I feel like it has to be worth a couple bucks...

JR's basic boring "build" - dog hauler and ski transport

Front end is all back together! Took her for a spin around the neighborhood and the front end is quite tight. No more wandering around down the road. I like. Before tightening the control arm bolts I jacked that corner of the truck up until it just lifted from the stands. It's my experience...

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Finished up the front end refresh. It's tight like a tiger now. Who knew your truck wasn't supposed to just wallow around the road... weird! Updating my build thread with pics and notes.

Poly in general depends on the application. I did a full Energy Suspension kit on my Miata and it was fine. Only mildly regrettable in the bushings that need to flex and not just pivot. For the truck I chose whiteline since everyone swears by them and the install doesn’t reuse the factory metal...

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

The sad part is I didn't even get to torque it too much... just a really shitty bolt I guess. I had the torque wrench on 59 ft lbs and the rest were fine but now I'm replacing them all with OEM units. Yes it does suck. And also confirming that I can't see your pics. I think you're trying to...

JR's basic boring "build" - dog hauler and ski transport

Got the LCA bolts and cams all lined up with my marks. Snugged em enough to hold but won't torque until it's got weight on it. Keeping with reassembly I got the LBJ's bolted on and put the uprights in place so I could torque them down. Driver side went smooth but passenger side... was a...

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Kept on with reassembly of the front end. Stripped one of the 4 ball joint bolts on the passenger side so disassembled and am ordering all new hardware tomorrow. Lame. Also... ordered a new steering rack which comes with inner tie rods. Also ordered new outers. Realized I now don't have jam...
