One of the mainstream brands of wipers, rainx or something from the bog-box autoparts stores, had adapters which screwed onto the old arms and turned them into equivalent of the J-hook style mount.

grinding into reverse can also be due to an incorrectly adjusted clutch, ie its not disengaging all the way. Sometimes bleeding the system can solve that.

Another issue to consider is the location of the exhaust versus the location of the clutch slave cylinder. The 3L (three point slow) and the 3.4L (5VZ) use variants of the R150 as well. I am surprised you didnt consider the 5VZ. They are readily available, have a very good rep for reliability...

That's a massive driveshaft, for sure. You could park it on a ledge and use that DS to move the truck sideways.
