The Highlander does not appear to be bigger than the 4Runner anymore. They were parked next to each other at the local stealership and the 4Runner now appears to be larger in every dimension.

First, congrats on the purchase! IF (and that is a big IF) the salesperson at the stealership was correct, about 8% of the 2010 4Runners will be TE, so I think you made the right move getting the one you want.

With a car as new as the 2010 4Runner you are absolutely correct that we probably won't know for a while how safe the third row is. Don't go thinking all 3rd rows are worthless, however. Most of the reading I've done indicates that fatality rates are only marginally higher for 3rd row...
