SpeedyKevin, good to know... I think I'll bring mine to the dealer soon for a tune-up, maybe get some new spark plugs. I'm due for at least an oil change, and at 40k miles, maybe a tune up as well. I'd like to be getting at least 15-17mpg with just 2wd engaged.

LOL! Actually I'm originally from New England, and I'm so desperate for precipitation that I celebrate rain by trying to engage the 4wd. Kind of sad, I know! :)

Yep, I just did the math. I filled up yesterday--the tank was close to empty but not quite. The tank is 23 gallons, and I got about 303 miles before filling up. So at best, if there were still a few gallons left, that's about 14mpg. I have wondered if there's another issue going on--I agree...

I think I'm a little bummed out because this truck gets super low miles per gallon, and I wish that I could at least get awd out of the deal. But I should have researched the Limited version more, I guess! Because right now, I get maybe 13mpg and basically just have a really heavy 2wd vehicle...

Yes, thanks, I will try this soon. I think I am putting too much strain on the transmission when parking on a hill without the parking brake. I used to have a Toyota pickup, but this is my first forerunner. I had no idea how much heavier it would be than my old pickup.

Interesting--thanks! I was just googling this and was seeing other things about the parking brake and "parking pawl." I don't usually use my parking brake, but you're saying to engage the parking brake *before* putting it in Park? I will try this!
