Here's the video of the sound. So this was on my driveway, its level surface. Started the car from a cold start and warmed up for 10 seconds. The first sound is from shifting to R from P. Second sound is from R to D. Then the last sound and finally driving away is from D to R.
It seems like it's coming from the brakes. Any thoughts? Normal?

Dude, that's your brakes + suspension creaking. Nothing to do with gears or transmission. Yes, it's normal for a BOF truck lol.
Agreed, perfectly normal. I find it much more noticeable when my 4R is cold...
Shifting from Park to Reverse on a slope

I can't yet start my own threads, so I am replying to this one. I have a 2017 forerunner with 37,000 miles. I bought it at 35,000 miles. Here's the common scenario:
When I am parked on a hill or incline, and I shift from Park to Reverse, the truck makes a huge thud noise, like quite harsh. My passenger even commented on it today, like wow, that doesn't sound right. Has anyone else noticed this? No matter how careful I am, how much my foot is on the brake, it still does it when parked on an incline.
Also, when parked level and I shift from Park to Reverse, or Reverse to Drive, the gearshift makes a squeaking noise.
Finally, I looked again at my carfax, and noticed that the transmission seal had been replaced at one point prior to my owning the vehicle.
I want to take it in, but right now with all the social distancing stuff, I have been trying to hold off. Thanks!

When you park, try hitting the parking brake first to avoid the car rolling back, then move the gear to P.

When you come to a complete stop engage the parking brake then put it in park release the brake pedal. Before you get going step on the brake release the parking brake put it D release the brake pedal. If it still makes the noise then look into it further.

If you're on an incline that's the transmission pawl. You really should use the parking brake before putting it in park.
The shifter has nothing to do with the transmission, so if it squeaks, it's probably getting on.
Not sure why they'd replace anything on the transmission.
Thanks! I will try these suggestions. So I guess that with the forerunner, the parking brake is used more regularly... is this because it is such a heavy vehicle?
I believe it will happen to any car, as long as the car rolls back a little without using parking brake.

Yes, thanks, I will try this soon. I think I am putting too much strain on the transmission when parking on a hill without the parking brake.
I used to have a Toyota pickup, but this is my first forerunner. I had no idea how much heavier it would be than my old pickup.

It does it on almost every vehicle with a separate parking brake mechanism on an incline. The transmission pawl stops the car from moving and is under force with out the parking brake being engaged.
This is so helpful to know. I hope I haven't done any permanent damage in the meantime.

I doubt it, most people don't use the parking brakes including my wife.
