    airlift 1000 questions

I wouldn't think twice about towing 2,500 lbs cross country with the stock suspension - with a 2,500 trailer/load, you should have roughly 250-400 lbs of tongue weight (weight on the hitch, rather than on the trailer tires). Now, if you're going to put a significant amount of weight in the cargo...

    4runner vs Explorer

In fewer words: If you like the 4Runner when you test drive it, you will not be disappointed with it's abilities, ride, or reliability down the road. (I would expect to see an mpg or two less than the Explorer on the highway but a few better in the city)

    What is this?

It's the shift interlock and, yes, there should be a plastic cover over it. Rather than go into more detail here, take a look at this thread: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/116261-shift-lock.html Welcome BTW!

    4runner vs Explorer

Here's a link to the Specifications section of the owner's manual for the '06: http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/om/OM35852U/pdf/8.pdf I can't speak to the Explorer with heavy loads, but the 4Runner does great. Yes, the suspension does sag as you add significant weight to the rear, but...

    Michelin Cross Terrain Issues

Has anyone had any issues with Cross Terrains? I've lost two on the interstate in the last 6 months, hearing them shred without noticing any problems before hand (pressure was acceptable at the beginning of each trip).

Pros / Cons of 4th Gen. What year to buy?

Here's where you'll find the higher mileage 4th gens: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/37419-highest-mileage-4th-gen.html

Pros / Cons of 4th Gen. What year to buy?

That's case with mine - I've noticed an amplified ticking when in reverse, specifically with your foot on the brake. However, the same noise is present in drive when the engine is still cold. I'm guessing this is a result of a cracked manifold, but the dealership didn't seem interested in...

Pros / Cons of 4th Gen. What year to buy?

I've got an '08, and per the owners manual it does NOT require premium fuel. Src: http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/om/OM35897U/pdf/gas.pdf

    Uneven Brake Pad Wear

Went ahead and replaced the pads this weekend. Piston was fine and the slides didn't seem bad. All greased up and reassembled, and hopefully they'll wear a little more evenly this time.

    Uneven Brake Pad Wear

I do have an extended warranty, which is why I'm wondering if it's worth taking to the dealer.

    Uneven Brake Pad Wear

When I went to change the rear pads I noticed there was a significant discrepancy in wear between the inner and outer pads on the driver's rear, presumably the same as noted in this post: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/maintenance/102253-vastly-different-wear-front-drivers-brake-pads.html Is...

    Down hill assist

Loud on mine as well. However, on an '07 RAV4 it's far quieter. Mine also doesn't keep the vehicle at a steady speed - it'll let you roll, then slam on the brakes. Is that normal?

    Brake controller questions -

Can't tell you exactly what it does, however I didn't connect that wire when installing my Prodigy P2 and everything works just fine (brakes, running lights, turn/brake signals, etc). Old brake controller on the F250 only has 4 wires too. Not sure why a brake controller would need that 5th wire.
