Uneven Brake Pad Wear

When I went to change the rear pads I noticed there was a significant discrepancy in wear between the inner and outer pads on the driver's rear, presumably the same as noted in this post:

Is this something that I can have the dealer look at as a possible warranty item? I don't want to throw another set of pads on, only to find them worn so unevenly again. Any ideas as to what might be the cause of the uneven wear?

A frozen piston in the caliper might do it, but I doubt it's a warranty issue.

Being that you're truck is an '08, you're out of the 3yr/36k mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. This is not considered a powertrain issue, so you're out of luck unless you have an extended warranty.

As far as causes, it could be a frozen piston or frozen caliper slides especially if the other side looks even.

I do have an extended warranty, which is why I'm wondering if it's worth taking to the dealer.

Being that the outer pad is the one that is worn more then the inner one. I think the slides for the caliper are frozen and not allowing the caliper to move..

Since its rear pads, pull off the slides, and grease them back up. Use high temperature caliper grease that comes in a screw-off can with a brush. When you put on the new pads, check if the piston goes back in (because it has to for installation anyway). If it moves, caliper is good, and its sticking slides causing the problem.

In rare cases (especially with the chinese semi-met garbage) one pad just wears faster because its made like crap.

Went ahead and replaced the pads this weekend. Piston was fine and the slides didn't seem bad. All greased up and reassembled, and hopefully they'll wear a little more evenly this time.
