Brake bleeding w/ABS w/o the SST tool? ...

A fresh new year bump to a timeless thread. I've owned my 03 with the "small" brakes since 2011. I now have about 180k miles on the old gal and she has big heavy tires and wheels along with the body armor, bumper, and winch to lug around. Although she sits in the garage 80% of the time now...

DIY: Power Steering Flush (4th gen specific)

Nice little tutorial here. Thanks to OP for putting this together and others for their additional experience. I just did a flush on my 03 V8. This thread made it a cinch. I used the tutorial given earlier in the thread to minimize spillage: Changing Power Steering Fluid - advice needed |...

    Drivetrain questions??

Not a lot of detail here to go on, but I'm suspicious that the "noise" was not from the axles but from a problem in your transfer case. And when you "lock" the differential, you're getting power to only the front or rear (your guess is better than mine). I'm suspicious of a serious problem...

Fixing the transfer case shift motor leak from within..

Thanks to MandAtaco for starting this thread and so many others who have contributed over the years. I addressed this poroblem. I didn't do the dirty work - I took it to a trusted local toyota expert for that. I did pull the transfer case myself. The tutorial, additional tips, and resources...

Oil Change - Replace Oil after a Week?

My .02 are that unless there's a clear known issue you're trying to resolve, that's a waste of resources - time and environmental. Our engines run properly for hundreds of thousands of miles when maintained correctly. Even if the oil were free, I wouldn't want to bother opening my crank-case...

Steering wheel shake at 70. Need thoughts

FWIW, if you have a lot of miles and especially if you're lifted, the bushings in the lower control arms up front are probably shot - especially the rear bushings. This can allow for movement, leading to some wobble felt in the steering wheel. I recently replaced mine and no wobble felt since...

    Lower Control Arm Replacements?

Can you clue me in? Did they recently raise prices, as they're showing 322/arm now. Would be great to save $50 if there's a way...

Fixing the transfer case shift motor leak from within..

If it's leaking, regardless as to the orientation of the shaft, and therefore the 4wd setting, it will leak. It will leak for a long time. I have a friend who has put 100k+ miles on his GS with a leak. We top it off every 2 or 3 oil changes. I've noticed my "drip" has become more...

    4wd problem

Sounds like you have a frozen actuator in your transfer case. Unfortunately it's kind of common and even more unfortunately there isn't a simple fix, and it's expensive if you have to get a new actuator. I would recommend you try a fluid change in the transfer case to see if that loosens it...

No problem just question about heat and traffic

If your needle ever goes above normal (about half way) you need to be keeping a very close eye on it and if it goes toward the red, shut down the vehicle or risk permanent engine damage. The internal controls (mostly thermostat, fans) regulate the engine coolant temperature so that regardless...

Help me identify this coolant hose!

Bump - anyone have a part number for this hose?

**4th gen cracked dash warranty replacement

After being on a waiting list for over a year and a half my ship (dash) has come in. Wondering if there is a best practice for what to do in advance of handing the truck off. I have a number of aftermarket switches in the blank factory location on the lower left kick panel. Should I be concerned...

Read This If You DIY Your Driveshaft Zerks

Thanks for sharing. There are few things more frustrating than dealing with a grease gun that refuses to get the grease anywhere but where it needs to be while folded under a vehicle.

    Which Sliders?

Most all of the websites show pictures of the sliders installed so you can get a look at how they fit on the vehicle. So search on here as well as their websites to see reviews. I will say that while it is nice to be protected from the other drivers doors, the sliders that come up toward your...

    Land Cruiser 100 series vs V8 4Runner?

Both are great. Obvious downsides to the Landcruiser are size/weight and therefore fuel mileage. Other than the cost of fuel, I'd rather be driving a LC. It should tow better than the 4Runner with the longer wheelbase. It's gong to be wider as well. There's no debating the LC is the higher end...
