Be sure to use a stop nut, loctite, or as the OP suggested, double nut on the eye bolt. Don't just use the nut that comes with the eye bolt. I rotated my tires the other day and noticed the nut, washer, and bushing were all missing from the end of the eye bolt on my driver's side. :shocked...

One year to the day after crossing 300,000 miles, I'm now at 322,647. Nothing out of the ordinary maintenance-wise the past 12 months: oil changes, air filters, tire rotations, headlight bulbs, new battery, and driver's side DRL/blinker socket and bulb.

'03 V6 4wd, few modifications aside from FJ coils/5100s and sliders. After 201 fill-ups, I'm currently at 18.35 mpg, manually calculated. Switched tires to 255/75/17s from stock size after the 95th fill-up. Best tank was 24.43 mpg (flat road trip with a nice tailwind) and worst was 9.35 mpg...

I guess there's any number of things you can be concerned with while road-tripping your 4Runner in the summer, but for me, performance and wear-and-tear is low on the list. Monitoring engine and trans temps via ODB Fusion has taught me a few things, most notably that eating up some highway...
