    2010 Ltd - X-REAS - Replacement Questions

I'm still on the XREAS at 85K miles. I hope to keep it as long as possible. When I need to replace it I'm looking at Dobinson's IMS shocks for $1200. Its a high quality shock that wont need to be rebuilt (although it is rebuild able). It also has a rubber eyelet mount, not a heim joint...

swaybar thicker on Limited than SR5/Trail(non-KDSS)?

I think the Limiteds have thinner sway bars due to XREAS adding some stability. A thick sway bar is not desirable, I assume it would make the ride too stiff.

Oem rear shocks and Eibach rear springs?

I agree, we can use the OEM shock on a slightly longer spring. However, I have to call out Eibach for mixing marketing and technical info on their website. Below Eibach states to only use their Eibach Pro shocks with the Pro lift spring. Not true until I hear why..

My shocks are leaking. Need some advice

You can replace a single XREAS shock one time. The P.O. of my limited has a single XREAS shock replacement early in the service record. The idea is the XREAS system can be opened one time, if done properly. If you replace one shock fine or replace all four. Either way, you get one shot at...

    Dealer rip off?

Looks like a legitimate dealer quote, $90 CAN for an hour of Labor sounds good actually. You do need the shim kit. The pads are $100 US$ so $116 CAN sounds good. Two hours to change front and rear pads is a long time. But that is what the "book" says...the filter at dealer counter costs $40. At...

So what exactly happens if you run Premium in a 4Runner?

Read somewhere it took 3 full tanks of gas to adjust the timing for high octane = about 1000 miles. I do believe in pure gas (no ethanol). Pure Gas is mainly sold as 91 octane around here. Sure, I can't really tell if there is a difference with 91 octane. I don't have data. I also think it helps...

So what exactly happens if you run Premium in a 4Runner?

I use premium exclusively, 91 pure gas. I believe the Dual VVT does adjust the timing. To protect the engine it takes about 1000 miles of consistent premium gas for the ECM to make the full adjustment. If you use one tank of of 87 octane the ECM adjusts back (retards) the timing immediately and...

    Y-pipe install

MPGs with y pipe are 18.9. Up from 17.4. HOWEVER, I thinks its summer gas related more than the y pipe. I didnt see the MPG gain for a couple months after install. Timing was aligned with seasonal gas switch.

“Oil Maintenance Required” Too Soon Issue

I agree, we could go farther than 5,000 miles oil change intervals. I just do it anyway, change the oil when the dash tells me. I do it myself and also rotate the tires at the same time. Oil is cheap now. I may start skipping the filter change. I use Royal Purple/TRD filters. I didnt like...
